Suspension seatpost anyone?
Hi all,
I've been thinking of getting a suspension seatpost for my Giant hardtail. Has anyone tried these? Of course i don't expect it to be like a dual suspension but at least soak up enough bumps to make it more comfortable, esp over rocky stuff. I been looking at the Cane Creek Thudbuster Lt or the U.S.E Sumo XCR. Any comments would be helpful.

come on Hybrids , I have one on my hybrid as I use it for commuting it is annoyingso I put a screw in it to stop it moving . I think they might be ok on a Hardtail while riding the mountainbike , it is trial & error to see when it does & doesn't take out the bumps
Suspention seat post tend to twist alittle from side to side. The major downfall is your seat is effectivly changing hight when it travels up and down. Best off teaching yourself to ride out of the saddle more to relive the backside!
it's the only one I've seen that seems to be any good. The others all seem to be low-budget rubbish with too much stiction to provide any useful suspension for your butt.
My cousin has a thudbuster on his HT and it seems to work very well. Takes the edge off trail harshness nicely. Of course, you could run 2.4" tyres tubeless at say 30psi and achieve much the same effect.
Couldnt help but visualise some chap riding along past looking like he was on a pogo stick... up and down, up and down !
Friend of mine had a cheap one like Hawkeye pointed out and he looked ridiculous. Almost Wilye Coyote jumping on an Acme pogo stick!
Pay a bit more for something decent or a touring seat with a lot of cush on it.
Dont care how much my friends make fun of my 'lounge chair'. My posterior deserves the best

have a look at the thudbuster ST (short travel)
its not a traditional suspension seatpost in that there is little travel and no boing factor - what it does do is take some of the edge off some bumps and hits so that you can actually ride alot of single track and fire trail seated - more time in the seat means less effort through the legs means riding longer - i first put one on a GF Al hardtail and the improvement was well worth the purhcase - i then put it on a steel hardtail and completed dirtworks 50 and 100 on it
you will loose some pedalling efficiency but not nearly as much as the thudbuster LT, use etc and the improved comfort i worth considering
