Leaking caliper?!?!

Hi everyone, ive got a bit of a question.

I was getting really bad performance out of my rear brakes so i decided to change the pads. When doing so i noticed a bit of a residue on the back of the pad (The residue was an outline of the piston) im confused if maybe this is contaminating pads or if its not something worth worrying about, there was zero sign of the residue spreading. so im not really sure if i need to start replacing seals just yet.

Thanks

Give it a good clean and check again after a couple of rides: if it's still there or worse consider seal replacement.

lol...time for a bleed...or a new set of shimanos!

They were bled very recently and they are shimanos lol, deore lx's to be exact. Must i clean the clipers, pads or both? Just with some brake cleaner?

Thanks.

Ive just taken them apart and i noticed the fluid is still there and after very little riding im not sure if its dirt or contamination but the pads are completely smooth (or are they supposed to be), so im guessing its contamination. is it hard to overhaul the caliper myself? Where can i get and how much are seals?

Thanks

I can't imagine that seals are very much. It's only a cople of O-rings and perhaps some teflon or delrin parts.

Have you washed the bike recently? It's possible that it could just be water in the cavity behind the pad. Plenty of pistons will hold small amounts liquid behind the pad until they get hot.

I have but after, i did take the bike for a spin and i have taken the pads out and cleaned them since.
