near perfect day
rode the ando's and oaks combined today in preperation for capital punishment and all i can say is WOW! ridden them both before seperatley but never in weather like it was today, absolutely perfect, the sun was out, not a cloud in the sky and the air temp was just cool enough to take the overheat off.Started off at around 10 am and was just intent on taking it however it came, this is my longest ride to date, so was testing the water/ticker/lungs to see how i'd get on. verdict? yeah, it went well. ando's was great, stuck it in the big ring and just flew, made it down to the first creek in little over an hour, was sort of physched to attempt the climb all the way out from the second creek to the gate, that lasted about 75m!! before the back wheel spun three times in the same spot and it was a quick unclip to stay upright, man, parts of that climb were loose and steep, however learned a few things about climbs today( like granny gear is not always best as the wheel even with weight on it spins too fast in the loose gravel). so it was a case of walk the really steep bits and jump on for the rest. views well made up for the climbing, really stunning. finished up happy and feeling o.k so next step, onto the oaks, again felt good so the first climbs didn't feel that big and the helipad came round fairly quickly, the down hill was fast but skittish and here is where the perfect day becomes near perfect, there's a sharp left on the descent and i was gunning it and in totally the wrong position, of course by the time i knew this it was too late!!! tried to lean into the corner but couldn't seem to commit my weight went way wide, so wide in fact ended up in the ruts and baby head rocks where the track drops off, turned front wheel up the side of the rut, which inturn made me use my shoulder, hip and leg in that order as a brake!!! lay there for a second waiting for the brain to pull itself together and brave the eyes to scan the body for broken bones but none!!! excellent!! must of been going at least 25-35kph. so dusted off and continued on got to the single track and took it fairly easy. absolutley loved it today thats why this is blogged!
