I'm turning 21 again (for the 20+somethingth time!) so I reckon that's a good excuse to stretch the legs.

This will be a social ride, and will suit those with some off-road riding experience, but perhaps not those still within their first half-dozen off-road rides.

So come and celebrate me getting older! Eye-wink

Is this the elusive Birthday Ride? Eye-wink

Will there be cake? And funny hats? And prizes for 'best dressed'? Sticking out tongue

Brian's picture

I'm a maybe for half of the ride whatever you do first as I don't think I can spare 4 hours.

Rob's picture

Ah.... he's made a typo - this is a 2 hour ride Eye-wink

hawkeye's picture

I may not make four hours either!

The option's there if you want it. Perimeter + Long may not have dried out enough anyway - we'll find out soon enough on the day.

Looking forward to putting faces to a few names - again - you know what it's like when you get old, you forget things. Eye-wink

Brian's picture

Agree, normal pace = 2 hrs. Its more if my brother rides because then I imagine the pace will be slower which means you wont need to wait.

hawkeye's picture

Sounds like you guys are shaping up to show me how out of condition I am. Sticking out tongue Laughing out loud

Rob's picture

I don't think so. I did... like... 60km in the whole of May!

Don't worry, slow will be good! Eye-wink

Pants's picture

If its going to be an easy pace (ie not as fast as brian!) i might come along. My DH bike is heavy and slow so i cannot go that fast.

FLY's picture

I haven't been on the bike much this year due to work but will join the start and maybe drop off very quickly!

Jonathan's picture

I would love to come, havent been out in at least 2 months now, but pending my brakes dont no if i can Sad well, my fronts work just not my back Sticking out tongue. i guess ill no by tommorow

I'm going to try and join you for as much as I can keep up with only one wheel. Need to get out and ride and I've never been on these trails so hopefully you'll at least be able to point me in the right direction when and if you loose me in the dust (especially on the downhills).

Brian's picture

The downhill on Duck will be interesting

Rob's picture

If on one wheel it might be best to hook up with us at Duck Hole as the first 1.5km or so is straight down the road, very fast. The DH junction is here:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=mccarrs%20creek...

Duck Hole is also a very fast trail (mostly DH) as someone else said, it should be 'interesting' Eye-wink

GeordieAndy's picture

I might see you out there. Planning on doing the same ride but want to start earlier about 8am.

unicycle6869's picture

Perfect. I will arrive earlier and start riding duck hole. I printed off several maps and it looks pretty straight forward that you will be doing duck hole, then ride on a road for a bit to Centre and ride that to Perimiter and Long Track, then turn around. I'm sure ya'll catch me somewhere on the tracks so say hi as you go by. If you see someone that looks lost with only half a bike, let me know where to go!

Brian's picture

@Pants. wait till you ride with someone fast then you'll no how slow I am Smiling

@Rob. 60km in May is heaps compared to my brother, he hasn't ridden in 2 years.

ps's picture

I am keen on a social ride so see you there. Got to leave at 12 so hoping the 2 hour pace fits everyones idea of social.

MarkkyMarkk's picture

Its about time I stepped out from the lurking shadows & tagged along for a ride.
I've done the Perimeter & Long trails a few times before but not the Duck Holes & Centre, it'd be fun to try something new & meet some nobmobbers.

However, there's a batch of home-brew thats in need of some QA tonight, so don't wait for me . . .

Pratters's picture

I just rang a friend and suggested we come along. I am 100%, but he is 50/50 and has the car. I will confirm later tonight if I'll be there with a "+1".

Jonathan's picture

brakes are fixed, cant wait to bed them in!!!

Brian's picture

I have to make this one. Looks like Cannondale's will be out in force Eye-wink

loki's picture

I got my bike back from the shop this afternoon and would join in but I opted to go water skiing instead!
(think I might be crazy... Smiling )

I'll be out riding Saturday afternoon instead.

Brian's picture

confirmed crazyness (if that's a word)

FLY's picture

I'm going to skip this as I'm way to unfit.

Have a good 21st!

Brian's picture

It's not going to be super fast and there is always the bail out after duck + centre if you have had enough.

Pants's picture

yeah i might bail after duck and centre and go take my bike on a DH trail like it was designed for.

hawkeye's picture

... as unfit as me! Smiling

hawkeye's picture

That was fun, and the company was great.

Apologies for stalling everyone through the gate at the start of Centre. You just needed a bit more of a challenge for the climb, eh? Laughing out loud

Jonathan's picture

its ok...i should be the most sorry Smiling Had lots of fun, thanks for the ride everyone and happy birthday once again.

Jono

Brian's picture

Thanks for the ride. It was good to spin the legs after all this rain.

Rob's picture

Just good to be back out, and a great morning for it. Apologies for bailing after DH+C, and perhaps being a bit quiet. Just wasn't feeling right this morning Sad

@Unicycle - we heard from a runner you were out on track - how'd you find it? We were going at a leisurely pace with couple of mechanicals so didn't catch you to say hi. Brought the camera and everything too! Next time?

FLY's picture

I ended up riding Duckholes and Centre in the opposite direction to you guys. Very big struggle up all hills. According to Garmin I had an average HR of 178 and Max of 205!! Had an embarrasing crash (thanks to who ever it was who saw this for not laughing) towards of the end of the ride and now have a very sore leg missing quite a bit of skin.

I saw Unicycle 3 times this morning - no idea how you do it on one wheel!!

hawkeye's picture

We caught uni about halfway along Perimeter - he was coming back the other way and looked like he'd been working pretty hard.

Well done Rob for completing as much as you did.

ps's picture

I did see the crash and was more concerned about any injuries. Its never a good outcome when you fall going downhill on a rocky section.

Next time just call out which side you want to pass on. Personally I find it easier to stop and move out of the way when going up hill. Not sure if thats the right protocol however I am sure someone will let me know.

btw next time you should join us. The pace was around 15kph and we had breaks after each of the main hills. Like Hawkeye said it was a social ride.
