Three x One
Im sick of deralieurs and all the associated dramas.Can i run a single speed with three front rings, just to be different, i've seen 3 x 9 and 3 x 10 but has anyone tried 3 x 1 ?? apart from having to pedal harder what would i need, perhaps a tensioner to the rear gear. What do ya reckon guys ?

may as well totally simplify
Alfin 11 speed hub gear - thats why they invented it. A few British manufacturers fit the Alfin hub gear s without dramas to cope with all the mud they ride in over there (like Charger that they sell at at CBD) . The 11 speed is the new one, current one is 8 speed
Truvativ Hammershmidt - If you have the right tabs on your bottom bracket, although there are adapters now I think too. Plus you need a spare $1k or there about.......
Last year during the dirtworks, my rear trigger shifter failed. All I did was lock the rear deraileur on a fixed gear by removing the shifter cable, reversing it, and tightening the cable in a fixed length/position. It worked quite well and I was able to complete the race surprisingly effectively. Just like single speed, your ratios will be limited, however you will at least have a few to play with. Easiest way is to retain the rear deraileur and adjust the cable tension from time to time to suit.

I was looking at getting one of these, but then I decided I wanted a 1 x 1 for the bike I am currently building.
Note that the website states "Because we use two pulleys, two chain rings with a maximum difference of twenty teeth can be used up front." I think you could run three rings at the front (as a pictures shows) as long as the difference between the smallest and largest does not exceed 20 teeth.
If you do get this I'd be interested to know how it goes in off road conditions.
