video? or has someone just loosened tension screw?
SRAm promo from a few years back when X9 first came out. ie before shimano rejigged every ting with the shaddow range
pretty cool vid none the less.
Does this mean that one is better than the other ? and if so , why..........?
Stiffer spring stops your chain jumping around so much and helps with crisper changing. As I said Shimano has rejigged it's line up in the years since that vid was made.
It all comes down to personal preference. I prefer the way SRAM works and feels but still think Shimano has it over them in terms of quality in their lower end stuff (what most people are first introduced to) and in longevity
Fair point on the lower end stuff, but given the choice I'd be taking a Sram X9 over an Shimano XT mech any day - much easier to adjust
not sure what you need to adjust... I just:
* set the limit screw so that the pulley is straight under cog with the cable off,
* back off the barrel adjuster on the shifter all the way (ie, screw it in),
* pull the cable as tight as I can before I clamp it down on the DR,
* take the remaining slack out with the shifter barrel adjuster so that it moves immediately when I move the shifter, being careful toi take oly the slack out and not pull t off the stop.
* Set the other limit screw so you can't pull the chain off the cog at the other end
No other adjustment required - it just works.
This assumes your cables/outers are good, and not sticky.
I find the upper pulley on X-9 can develop noticeable drag. With XT, you can swap the bushed unit out for a ballraced set for $20. Erm, I should say you notice the difference when you put a dual-ballraced XT DR in compared to a bushed unit.
Not that it's going to help me win races - lots of work required on fitness and skills.
I gotta say the shadow mech couldn't really be much easier to adjust. Once installed the first time as long as you don't clobber it with rocks it's super quick to keep running. Even changing cables quick and painless.
Anyway, all of this is superfluous, everyone knows that capag is the way to go

Kmart needed a new gruppo supplier for their latest range of Huffys...
just to clarify - I like the fact that one to two turns of the barrel adjuster at the shifter always seems to fix any shifting problems. it's a personal thing.
One thing against sram is the ridulous cost of their spare jockey wheels.
Ive had mine for 12months now. Done around 3000ks and never needed to touch it, havent adjusted anything.
Appart from new jockey wheels last month due to capital. It just works in all conditions.............all the time.............. awesome!
