Who is this course for?

For the experienced rider, this course is specifically aimed at taking those with some technical skills to the world of DH and freeriding. Covering downhill fundamentals, Learning to Fly introduces the techniques needed when the trail gets steep, jumps & tabletops appear and you want to get some air!

We'll focus on balance, weight distribution, body positioning, bike control, line choice and technique so that you learn to maintain momentum. You'll learn how to maximise traction, stay in control, read the trail, pick your line and carry speed through runs. You'll be amazed at the difference it will make to your riding and before you know it, you'll be launching off everything you can find!

To do this course, you don't need to have a downhill bike but we will tell you that the more travel you have in your suspension, the easier the course will be (we don't suggest a fully rigid bike)! If you've got padding, then we recommend that you bring it along.

How do you know if you're ready for this course? We encourage you not to overestimate your ability - this is a technical course and requires a good level of skill. Attendance at one of our other courses will definitely give you a 'yes'. If you haven't done one of these, then you need to be able to answer 'yes' to at least 5 of the following skills. If you can't, then you really need to give Trailbreakers or Chix at Speed a run first:

~Land a 30cm drop
~Descend on loose or steep descents
~Negotiate a log or gutter using bunnyhop or front/back wheel lift
~Negotiate a log or gutter using pedal (or ratchet) kick
~Braking at speed and through corners
~Understand how to read a line and follow it

The course

This course is specifically designed for the experienced rider who is looking to learn or improve their downhilling skills. It focuses on technique, control, weight distribution and body positioning to allow you to maintain speed through runs and negotiate drops, jumps, etc, safely. Learning to Fly aims to give you the fundamentals of downhill riding and take you to the next level.

A good level of riding experience and ability is required to participate in this course, and it certainly is not aimed at the novice rider or person who lacks confidence.
