They have taken the Juicy fives off the rear & put a shimano (cough) on for the time being , not overly happy with it, it is a 485 brake, low standard for my liking . Looking to upgrade the whole thing to a juicy 7 or Ultimates , Elixir , the shimano need a bleed & squeel like a banshee
The 485s are a bit weak. Ive got the elixir 5's. They also squeel a bit (more so in the wet) but wow do they stop!!! So i really don't care about the noise. I would defiantly recommend the elixir 5's

Smiley, you wanna ditch both your brakes and buy some current model XT goodness from CRC.
Just take it easy and use one finger only until you get used to them. You don't wanna go over the bars. The "servo wave" makes them feel like they're power assisted.
No squealy, either, if you use the oem metal pads. Only an occasional squeal in the wet.
With a 6" Xt alloy centered rotor (I've got this setup on my Rush). The braking is great. Modulation is so good. The harder you squeeze the harder it stops. I also run the current series XT's on my Norco combined with Hope floating rotors (8" front and 7" rear), I needed a bit more grunt from these so I went to a saint 4 spot caliper but retained the XT levers.
One finger is all you need to brake, as said and totally agree with the genuine metal pads.
Not only this, but bleeding is so simple and you don't need to use dot fluid so no risk of paint being damaged.
So im guessing you managed to repair the brakes opposed to the new ones?
