I just put an Ultegra one on my road bike which is the same setup - the 'ultegra' or 'dura-ace' wording goes on the outside.
I think that applies only to 10-speed.
My 9-speed Dura-Ace/XTR chains don;t have that lightening cut-out on the inner links like in the photo in that article, and I haven't ever had one skip or jump off except from a badly adjusted front deraileur.
yes only for 10sp 9sp not any diff.
