Hey everyone,

So, I went for my first race... and got absolutely mashed! I had a great time overall, but I was wondering if I could get some recommendations on what brand and model:

-Body armor
-Shin/knee guards
-and full face helmet to buy

Thanks everyone! Laughing out loud

hey boulder,
good on you for having a go!

i've never done racing, but have done some DH.
all depends on your price point.

Since i only occasionally do DH, i bought entry level gear, but have been very happy with it and it has definitely saved alot of skin.

I bought a 661 helmet and upper body armor from TBSM.com.au
also got Fox Launch knee/shin pads from ebay (which i may be interested in selling, cos they're too big for me)

then again, if you're going to get serious, then spend good money on quality protective gear.

ive had all sorts of arm, knee/shin armour over the years kylestraights, evos, shadow conspiracy(bmx) etc . most of it was fairly comfortable although a little bit hot, they did have a tendancy to disintegrate when put to the test which is a fairly frequent occurance with me, probably spend more time in the dirt than on the bike Eye-wink. most protected well but didnt last to long.

poc vdp bone knee/shin and arm -the best ive owned yet, bullet proof, articulated (no rubbing) and very very comfy for longer rides, have stood up to punishment well so far and give you that stormtrooper look.

helmets, try heaps on, very important to find the best fit, ive used tld D2 and poc both very good noggin protectors, both have worked well for me.

Ive only ever had raceface body armour its lasted forever and is fairly vented but might not be able to get it now. i look like the mitchelin man all padded up but sucko! rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. thats my 5c worth.

so basically go for comfort and quality?

thanks everyone!

Helmet. I like TLD and find them very comfy, but different people have different shaped heads...

Neck(I go neck before body or knees)
Leatt or alpine star, don't compromise with anything else

Body armour:
I like dainese for the kidney belt and all round feeling of indestructability it gives me but RXR is super comfy (feels like you are wearing a heavy shirt) and claims 4 x better impact protection than trad hardshell armour

Knee:
I like 661 Evos though I tried a set of pinstripes the other day and was very impressed.
