Fork making a squelchy noise
Hi NobMobbers,
My forks have started making a squelchy noise during the rebound & I'm wondering if this is something to be concerned about. It kinda sounds like the internal oil might have air bubbles as it gets forced throughout the workings.
Does this mean a major service is required, something with a quick DIY fix, or should I just ignore it?
The fork seems to be performing as normal, but not being an expert on these things, my perception of normal might be off the mark.
They're a Rockshox Recon Race Solo Air w/PopLoc fork from my Trance2 that's about 18 months old but only does low km's.

Could be any number of things
First thing to check is oil level. Rockshox on new giants are notorious for having low oil levels from new.
It sounds a lot like it needs a service. Either download the tech doc and do it yourself (if the seals are not leaking just clean up, lube and new oil. You will be surprised at how much better the fork will feel after doing this.
If the fork is leaking oil or air you can buy the complete o ring seal kit and wiper seals and do the whole lot.
Or take the easy option and get the LBS to service it.
What rebound setting are you using? My forks make the sound of oil rushing through the inners when I have a very slow rebound, I think this is quite normal. If it's happening on all settings though I would give them a service.
The sound occurs throughout all of the rebound settings & there's no oil leaking onto the uppers.
I might have a go at giving them a clean, lube & oil change - the tech doc doesn't look too intimidating.
Is there anything special about 15wt suspension oil, or will any 15wt oil suffice?
I've used fork oil from motorbike shops without issue in my Fox fork.
