Del Rio
Only got the leave pass approved on Wednesday evening so not much in the way of preparation or expectations. Started midfield which was about right for me.
It ended up being a beautiful day with temperatures up to 29 near the top of the main climb. Lots of bitumen and dirt road however the single track was fairly technical. After the first hour the single track settled down and provided some good riding. There is about 140m of climbing on each lap and most of it is in the dirt road with a steep section of 100m or so just near the end of the climb.
On the first lap I was flat out in granny on the pinch climb with my 2*9 setup so wasn't looking forward to the later laps. Ended up feeling OK till the 3hr mark and even got through the last 2 climbs OK.
Good atmosphere amongst everyone there and lots of polite people when overtaking or being overtaken. I hadn't been back to Del Rio in the daylight for about 20 years so found it interesting to see again.
I can see why Rocky Trail organise races there and I will try and take the family next time I race there.
.. you drop down into the single track with the bandage on his hand was me
didn't see the bandage however looked like you were busy building a wooden platform.
I was standing up on the top of the fire road directing people down hill on there first lap I had a orange vest on & there was another guy down on the bitumen sending you up the hill onto the fire road first lap
I think I saw you driving back down after the first lap. The guy working on the platform turned up about the same time and had what looked like a downhill bike in the back of his ute. Is there a downhill track there?
you were a fair way back in the pack then , I only came down the rd when there was a few left. Yes there is a downhill track there too, one off the jetblack guys help build it, apparently they made most of the tracks around the top of Del Rio
