Don't know for sure if I can get back home in time to make this ride. So don't change any plans on my account. Assume I won't be there. I would text you if I can go.

Greetings,

Me and Mick were riding through Red Hill today. We did the main trail, parts of 4WD Follies, Mr MX, Drop Zone, and Garden of Gullies. Others we spoke to had also been out through the Rim ride. From my observations and from other's, the state of the trail is currently very poor due to the amount of standing rain water.

Plus these loser MX riders have absolutely ripped up the trail in many places. There are foot deep mud ruts running through many of the trails that we would use. Making them impassable without getting off and walking. Not good. And the mud sometimes is a few inches deep in parts of the trail, like potters clay. Sticky and gooey. Fine if your a potter, but mud and MTB's don't mix.

Not sure how relevant my post will be by the end of this week, Sunday the 13th. Hopefully the trail will be mostly dry by then. But this is just for your info. Eye-wink

Hi there!

Thanks Liam for the info! Doesn't sound like much fun! Let'S wait and see what the weather will be like this week. If it doesn't rain I think it might be alright?

Sorry for all the hickhack with this ride but considering that Liam won't maeke it back in time I would like to make this ride a morning ride again (9.00). Just because I like riding in the mornings better, it would work better for Evan and maybe we could have lunch after Smiling?!

Let me know what you think Christine, Garry, George, Mildred, Shaun, Bruce and whoever else I forgot!

Cheers
Carolin

I'm in

Anytime suits me. I managed to get Mothers day thrown in with my birthday dinner. Which leaves me Free! Yay!

Liam, Mick, Clint and myself did two laps of Manly dam on Saturday morning and it was great fun the ground was dry with a few small puddles so there was no evidence of the rain erosion from all the rain that we have had in the past few weeks. BUT there are a few corners that seem to be getting straighter... doh!!!!

Andrew

Bruce C's picture

Sounds excellent. I'll be there (unless it's raining).

evan's picture

Sorry boys and girls, you'll have to count me out of this one. Family bash for mothers day.

Evan

At this point, I'm bendy flexible...

Caro's picture

Hi all!

...meeting time is 9.00am confirmed now.
Changed it in the header too, so hopefully no confusion!

Can't wait Smiling

Bruce C's picture

Unfortunately the time change cuts me out - I can't make it on a Sunday morning. Have fun. It sounds like a great ride.
Bruce

Caro's picture

I had it in my head that everybody was flexible timewise!
Promise no time changing around for next time, I know that doesn't reall help for Sunday!!
Mmmhhh...

Bruce C's picture

Thanks Carolin. I understand.
Bruce

GAZZA's picture

Thanks guys and girl for a top ride today. Did some stuff that made me cack my pants as well as laughing my c..k off! I was so impressed with the quality of riding. Caro, dont ever get a full suspension or we all might as well stop riding! Lee and bruce, dont get get big bikes or you'll make me look like i ride a rigid bike. Pete, great rolldown work and hopefully look forward to taking bruno for a ride if he'll come along. Andrew, well done mate, good riding dare i say it... I want your car even though i prefer holdens! Sorry boys to sabotage your manly dam ride but we just couldn't get enough today! At least i gave you a laugh at the 19th hole! Sorry liam but you would have loved today. And one more thing... The best thing of the day was... I did manly dam steps on an 8inch travel bike with a bald back tire! In ya face cross country purists!

Bruce's picture

Hi, just wanted to say thanks to Carolin & everyone else for a fun day.
Special mention to Gazza you are insane! riding things I can hardly walk up or down, well done.
I agree Carolin isnt allowed to get a new bike, especially a dually or we will all be put to shame.
Thanks again
Bruce

lorrie's picture

Hi,

Yeah cool ride! I got a bit lazy in the end though. Thanks for organising this Caroline!

For everyone who wants to improve their riding do come along to one of these rides. There is no better way to improve than to have a few people hanging around and offerring support, advice, safety in numbers and the occasional laugh when things go wrong (and grumbling at the motorcross riders) and video! (hint hint Smiling there was some good video shot that day.

Chicks dig scars (quote..Lance Murdoch - Stuntman)

Liam - you would have enjoyed the riding on the weekend.. ive started (and prob Bruce too), looking at some big hit bikes. stay tuned...

Caro's picture

but I have to write it anyway Smiling

Are you saying Lee that you guys are only doing the big drops for the scars to pull girls??? ;-D
Mmmh.... I am not sure if that is a guarantee for success.. Eye-wink

Anyway good luck! or should I say 'break a leg'??

(Lol.... sorry can't help myself today! Too much fun!)

Little-Ditty's picture

Good for hospital stays, maybe not for pulling chicks. But Lee, I will be happy to laugh at your stacks. Laughing out loud

You will need to keep us up to date on your bike search when we are out riding next. Eye-wink

Ian's picture

What happened to the second video of the jump off the 19th Hole? That was the funny one!

Bruce's picture

Yep Lee,

a big bike could be on the cards. Just gotta work out how Im going to pay for it, might wait till the new seasons bikes come out & try to get a bargan on an 07 model.

Wishful thinking
Bruce

Rob's picture

Bruce... but if you turn DH, how will you fit a pressure suit under your lycra?

Bruce's picture

No answers to that one yet, sure I can sort something out though, any suggestions?

alchemist's picture

Too easy - wear it over the top.

Rob - who was unfortunately wearing Lycra racing MTNX at the National Championships

nate's picture

A big thanks to all you red hill riders on sunday!

Dispite having my ride cut short due to mechanical issues, I had a blast! The pics and vids suggest that the rest of the day was a success.

It was nice to ride with friendly, like minded people -thanks!!

Looking forward to more adventure....Ourimbah on sat is perfect, hope to see some of you there.

-Caro, thanks again for the pump, it made the return trip much easier.

Caro's picture

Glad to hear you made it home riding rather than pushing Smiling
Shame you had to bail! Which brings up the discussion about (dis-) advantages of tubeless tyres again.... not sure now

Have fun!
Carolin

nate's picture

Hey Carolin,

That was the second flat tire I have had in 4 years! The slime usualy works well but I guess the tyre is very old. I also have this tiny tube of quick set glue made by hutchison that allows you to repair a small hole from the outside of the tyre (yet to be tested). Of course do you have to bring it with you!

go tubeless!!

Stuart M's picture

it so you can keep on riding? Pull the tube out after the ride and fix the problem then

Rob's picture

I recently learned that you can also patch a tubeless tire from the inside with standard patch kit.

Of course, you'd have to know where the hold was, but if the gu inside the tire didn't seal it, then no doubt it's big enough to spot?

I'm hoping to never have to try this out and can't say if this is good advice or not... but it's what the guys at BA told me.

leximack's picture

you can patch tubeless tyres from the inside but i didnt have much luck with it (old bike had tubeless), would lose pressure quite quickly, you can buy specific tubless patches and sealant though which might work better. I ended up putting in a normal tube and never had another puncture in 3 or 4yrs of riding, made it slightly heavier but felt more confident with the setup. Current bike doesnt have tubeless and have had 2 flats in 5 months riding, not alot but more than the tubless setup. I am not fussed as the current tyres can be changed inside 5 mins if a flat occurs, tyre rolls on and off the rim with no tyre levers so its easy to do.
My oppinion is that for general weekend warrier types either setup is fine, no big deal if you have a flat on a social ride, plenty of people to help and good excuse for a chat and break. If your into hard core racing then the choice may be different. basically i wouldnt base a new bike purchase on whether it had tubeless or not and i wouldnt bother changing a non tubeless to tubeless setup.

Matt's picture

As ever.. I run tubeless and carry a couple of tubes for such emergencies, if you have a gash that the stans can't fix then as Stuart says just stick a tube in for the rest of the ride. Just make sure you take care of the valve that you remove from the tubeless rim. Then when you get home see if the tire's fixable, if not get a new one.

Don't just leave the tube in unless you're really strapped for cash, it'll likely puncture again anyway, and it's the worst of both worlds - you have a heavy tubeless tire with more inner tube weight. The point of tubeless being to shed the inner tube weight!

To my mind tubeless is the go if you have the inclination to set it up right, ie. a bit of stans (if you're being conservative} and a good feel for the tyre pressures you need. The rotating weight saving and the ability to run lower pressures really make a big improvement to your ride.

TTFN,
Matt.
