Scott 24 - How'd you fair?
Man, what an event!!!
So freakin huge!!!!
I loved it, it hurt like buggery (well my back did...) But I loved every second of it!
The down hill sections, with the jumps were so much fun. I also loved all the techy parts, the rocky sections and the tight twisty's through the trees.
The night laps were awesome too! Having to tuck the shoulders in to dodge impacts with trees and feel them brush past you as you zoomed past!
I've so got to get my hill climbing up to scratch though... The flats, techy bits and DH sections I was real quick and passed so many people on these sections. but the up hill parts I sucked! I got swamped after my second lap.
Next year is on for sure!!!

I agree, it was massive and the track was awesome. I really loved it. Our team did not so well though. Normally we are in the running for a good position in the highly prestigious (not) Male 6es 40+ but this year our team anchor busted himself in lap one and did a DNF and we lost 1.5 hours wondering where he was. Then all of us got flats. That's almost an hour fixing bloody flats
But hey, the adrenaline rush of having a better rider in your tail and cranking it to stay ahead is very addictive.
Perfect weather, well organised and fantastic track. I'm with Arno: "I'll be baak"
Cheers,
Staffan
We surprised ourselves coming 3rd in the "very prestigious" Male 6s 40+ category after one of the teams that usually gets a podium place had a bad run of luck. We had no flats, perfect transitions plus our team captain / anchor man (not me) set a cracking pace with lap times of 1.01s during the day and 1.05s at night. Sorry Staffan
Anyway great weekend. Glad it wasn't freezing overnight this year, that there was a very friendly atmosphere with no agro when overtaking and the riders were generally well spaced out. Last year with everyone on one (shorter) track, climbing the hill you'd get caught in a conga line with few opportunities to pass - not this year. Another well organised event from CORC.
I'll be back too.
Nick, I think you might find that the other team you talk of had the previous poster as a member
Sounds like they had a shocker!
Well done on the podium
Well done Nick!
I'm stoked a NobMob team nabbed a podium place in that highly prestigious category. It is bloody good fun because as you just outlined in your post it all needs to come together. No flats, no mechanical, smooth transitions and no injuries.
Cheers!
Well done Nick and team on the podium!!!
It was a really exciting for us old guys as we battled out third place with the team from the Helensburgh Off Road Cycling Club who came ended up coming fourth.
It came down to the last lap which our final rider went out on 3 minutes ahead of theirs just before the 12.15 cut-off time. Unfortunately for them (or fortunately for us) their last rider got a two punctures on the final lap and when he went to put in a replacement tube for the second time, he realised the spare tube was a schrader valve and wouldn't fit through the hole in his rim so he had to wait until someone passed that would gift him a presta valve tube.
this was our first 24hr event and we all thoroughly enjoyed it, even if we had no sleep!
Our teams came first in the Team 4 over 40's Females, 2nd in Team of 4 Females and 2nd in Team of 6 Females.
reading all the banter about the track the week before was a bit off putting but the track was really fun. I'm not good on climbs but i did enjoy the challenge that the rocks climbs provided. I only did night laps, and whilst i had ridden some of the tracks the week before, it was all new to me at night. There was only 1 rider i gave bad karma too, after letting me know he was behind me i said 'hang 5 until we get around the corner' but he was too impatient and went anyway, clipping my bars in the process. I gave one guy my spare tube on the first lap, on my 2nd lap i saw a guy ride into a rocky soft section to let another rider through which resulted in the good samaritan getting a flat tyre. I managed to pick up a handlebar light, multitool and a bike computer on my dawn lap - so if you lost any of these contact CORC as i handed them in.
I learnt a few things from my first 24hr which i must write down so I don't forget for our next 24hr The Mont!
Well done everyone, but...
... don't forget to blog about the event if you want to record your result and have it appear in the appropriate table on the event page, and in the 'Results' tab on your account page - handy for comparing with next year
