Gov't support for mountain biking.... in Scotland !
Just seen this article in the Sports section of the Herald, a Glasgow broadsheet newspaper ( right alongside the reports of the latest Celtic Rangers football match).
http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/other-sports...
The level of government and non government cooparation and involvement sounds great........ maybe we can dream of something similar ?
I particularly noticed the stats that "Overall, the value to the Scottish economy from mountain biking-related tourism is estimated at £119m, and the activity currently supports some 3500 jobs."
Almost makes me wish I was back in Scotland........ almost

So much potential in Australia (more so than Scotland I would argue) and yet it would appear that the gov't just doesn' get it.
I think this line is rather interesting:
"Scotland is very much becoming an internationally recognised destination both in terms of the sport and as a leisure activity"
Australia is already an internationally recognised tourism destination. Why not piggy back off that with the considerable existing resources that we have? Australia has the climate, land area (Scotland fits into Australia almost 100 times over) including a mountain range running almost the ENTIRE length of the East coast, variation in terrain, global identity as a tourism destination and a huge following (including arguably one of the most talented MTB populations).
You could draw a comparison to most parts of this article and clearly argue how Australia is in the same (if not better) position.
There is so much info available that supports Australia as a potentially great (and more importantly sustainable) international MTB location, and yet we continue to lag 10 years behind the rest of the developed world.
Anyone know why?
the Gov's cannot see a direct $$$$$$
