First Race? Nowra???

Thinking to do my first race in Nowra. The 30km with SCUM in December.

Never done one before. Reasonably fit (def need more).

Is anyone able to tell me what to expect? Will go ride it before.

How hards the course? Is it a good course to get the bug at?

Any tips for first time racing? Both during and pre race?

Thanks for any help....

coondoo is an excellent track no massive climbs lots of single track ,I did a 6 hour there this year had a ball highly recomend this track for your first race . It was where I did my first race and I caught the bug Eye-wink

I did this race last year - the 30/60km year end event.
The course is a cracker. Not too hilly, but enough to get you breathing, and enough to enjoy some down....

My only issue was that I found it really really tricky to follow the course markings, and got lost 3 or 4 times - eventually having to withdraw and use my Garmin (thank god I had it) to get home.

This was as much to do with my 'head down, bum up' riding, as I was flogging along not seeing the little arrows.
SCUM do a great job though, the tracks were sweet, and there is even a little sizzle afterwards.

Perfect first race.

I rode the Condoo tracks at the Choc Foot 6 hr and then again for the Husky 100. Soooo much fun. No killer hills just fast flowing single track linked by fire roads. The SCUM trail faries have done a cracker job. There are a couple of techy bits but all the angry stuff has a sensible b-line that is well marked. Reckon it's a great track to start your racing career ! I only started racing (social) this year and was quite worried about being slow and not able to keep up. Turns out there was nothing to worry about and have never experienced any track agro. Generally the faster rider will call 'track' or 'when ya ready rider' and then you wait till there is space and move to the side and then watch as they disapear into the dust ! Easy as. One of the highlights of my year was being overtaken by Craig Gordon at the 6hr ! Wow those elite lads move fast. Inspirational stuff .....

my guess will be the SCUM guys will mark the course out better this year, rarely do they put on a bad event. I did the event last year, it was fantastic, we had about 110 riders, it was warm, the course was great, they used about 60% of coondoo. You won't be dissapointed - this year will be 30/60/90. If your planning on doing the 90 you'll have to register online.
