club race clashes?

just checking the club race calender and noticed for the second year, that i know of , that two of the biggest race clubs (wsmtb and ccomtb) near sydney have yet again clashed there races, so you couldn't race both clubs seasons, if you were so inclined, just wondered if anyone knew the reason?

When we look at setting the WSMTB calender we usually don't have other clubs dates because we don't have acess to them untill they put them on their website. Our main priority is avoiding clashes with major events and what is suitable for the committe and when Yellowmundie is avaliable. One look at enduropulse will show you how busy the MTB calender is these days so clashes are unavoidable unfortunately. I would say that CCMTB were in exactly the same position as WSMTB, they looked the rapidly filling enduro calender and chose what dates where left and most suitable and they just happened to be the same as ours.

tbh i think i may have had tunnel vision on that post and was thinking that the two clubs only had each others race dates to worry about! of course there are so many other factors, cheers for the explanation.

I do the calendar for HMBA and to be honest, there is so many races now that it is pretty much impossible to avoid clashing with something.

We work with CCOMTB to avoid clashes, but even then it is inevitable.

We would all prefer not to clash, but at the end of the day for clubs it is better to avoid the major races that club members will be wanting to attend.

You inconsiderate bastard with your tunnel vision lol.

You racing C Grade this year btw?

'Cause there is only so many weekends in a month and when it's the same people who volunteer to run XC, DH, MtnX, Enduros at club and state level.... well you put the races on when it most suits you and your family life and if it clashes it clashes.

I know NSWMTB used to try and use the system of Enduro first weekend of the month, DH/Mntx Second, XC third club rounds 4th but that never really worked as you have to take into account of when the venue is free and when the volunteers are available. Avoiding clashes with other clubs for club rounds unfortunately falls way down the list of priorities.

change those priorites to suit my schedule! i can get quite busy at times so i'll email all of you next year and let you know what weekends are good for me, need to get a few races moved in feb anyway as my mum comes to visit. god bless her.

@Logan, yeah mate c grade for me, i'll be pleased with a mid-field + finish, see you there!

p.s. all people who are involved in running these clubs are LEGENDS even if their scheduling should be left to when i can make it!

That's fine, just get your yearly schedule to me by mid November and I'll do my best to stuff things up.

To further expand on what SpudATM and Flynny have said - when I sat down to set the WSMTB calendar for 2011, I had to consider:

- school holidays: to be avoided as families wish to go away
- Easter & Christmas, and any long weekend with a public holiday: again - people wish to travel, and experience has shown that attendance is low on these weekend.
- the ever expanding list of enduros
- National Park's requirement (there are other users!)
- MTBA National Rounds

So, the starting point is always what worked for last season - and then check for major clashes. Even after doing all this we have found out that CF have slipped in another of their races to be held on "our" traditional Club Championship date, ie 23 Oct. You will note that WSMTB have set dates going right through to Feb 2012. The dates were then sent to CCOMTB for their info as well.

Unfortunately, there will still be clashes - but I think MTB and the Clubs are all big enough now to handle this.

Ray Rice
