Service Mavic Freehub CrossMax ST on 2008 XO.
Had been done once before by a shop. Read/heard a few times over the past year how they need frequent cleaning.
I was getting occasional buzzing/humming (particularly chocolate foot forward) sound if coasting for extended durations.
Bought a chain-whip and Shimano cassette removing tool. Had fine grit and needed a clean. Used 10mm hex, 5mm hex, Iso Alcohol, tweezers, baby oil, rag, cotton buds, old toothbrush, eye protection.
Followed video:

Only had one little puzzle bit during assembly. Small flat shiny washer goes inside empty barrel before the 2 part axle goes in. Might wear disposable gloves next time, a work light if at night and sit down at a table rather doing it standing up at a bench.
Runs smooth. Bicycle happy!

At the begining of the video he showed the cassette moving in and out.
He then says if it is moving like that you need to get in there and clean it up.
Thats total crap just like the hub. Fact is that yellow bush is worn out allowing the movement.
I dont know why mavic didnt use a bearing instead. They wouldnt wear so quickly then.
If your cassette moves like the one in the video you need to either replace the yellow bush or replace the freehub.
Cleaning it wont do a thing!
It's good to know. Luckily I don't get wobble 'yet', and I've heard it could be inevitable one day. I'm told I should be cleaning it out about quarterly to extend the life of it. There is some info here somewhere saying you can get a ceramic aftermarket cup (i think it was a bearing cup???) for about $45. The after-ride panel (*burp*) did a rough estimate and guessed it's done 1500 - 2000 kms.
