Back Yamma Bigfoot 2011
Corner of Back Yamma Road and Parkes Eugowra Road, Eugowra NSW 2806. This is around 25km South of Parkes.
The 2011 event will be held on the 4th September. http://www.backyammabigfoot.com.au/
What is the Back Yamma Bigfoot?
The BYBF is a 25, 50 or 100km MTB enduro in the Back Yamma State Forest. Back Yamma is 20km south east of Parkes, NSW. The race consists of a 50km loop (The Bigfoot) through a relatively flat forest of eucalypts and cypress pine. The course consists of approx. 30km of single track and the rest fire trail. The 25km option (The Little foot) covers the first half of the Bigfoot, while the 100km race (Two Big Feet) consists of two laps of the Bigfoot.
Because of the relative flatness (only 60m between highest and lowest points) of the course, the ride is fast. By all means it's still a tough race, but is ideally suited to those people wanting to step up to their first 50km or 100km race, or those riders wanting to set a personal best time over these distances. Just to give you an idea of how fast it is, the winner of last years 100km event finished in 3hr 47mins. WOW!
The single track is fun, with a few hills to make it interesting. There is a nice big camping ground where everyone can have their own personal camp fire, and camping is free. We are a small club, the Central West Off Road Bicycle Club (CWORBC), and our goal is to offer a good quality, fun event, at a reasonable price. This will be the second year for the event and we have lots of good improvements planned.
We look forward to seeing you out this way in September.
Cheers from the Back Yamma Bigfoot Team

Going to make a bit of a family holiday out of it, really looking forward.
looks like a few nobmob are keen for this ,as it is 4 months away
Figure this could be a good opportunity to go less than 4 hours for the 100k....
Looking forward to this one...as I have not attempted a Race since Capital Punishment last year!
Time for something at bit easier....
Looks like a great event for the family too - bring the kids out for some camping and cruise around the course on Sunday. Probaby only do the 50 given the big drive home and not too long for the wife and kids to wait.
Go the 100 Wayne
Can I get a bigfoot jersey /t-shirt ??
Yes I can....can't wait....two more weeks!
... only if you enter the event
Harden up Wayne & do the 100! I'm thinking I might enter & maybe take a day or 2 off work so the family can have a little holiday out there.
Guys I hear you
it's not about hardening up it's about keeping the mrs happy. First event mrs and kids will be at - grandparents too - so I thought it a bit much to be out for 4 - 5 hrs riding.
Given the course is 2 laps of 50 - it is not as if i am
missing any of the course.
Thoughts are travel out Friday setup camp - fullcourse reccy on sat - race Sunday
You win the argument of 2 laps of the same course but isn't there a ratio of kilometres driven/kilometres ridden that needs to be kept in check
Also, I'm sure your family would get some enjoyment of when you finish the 50 telling you to get out there and do it again
Full course reccy on Saturday should help clock up some additionAl ks on the bike
that will be 100k over 2 days
Now that's an idea, social 50 Saturday, race 50 Sunday. Something to think about...
that is a good Idea Wayne ,I might consider that option ,after the rock wallaby race I am sceptical of my ability to do 100 km in one go.
Should be a good weekend, I have emailed them to ask if camping is available Friday and Sunday nights, haven't heard back yet.
Be good to make a family weekend of it.
Craig by September the Rock Wallaby will be a distant memory - saying that I am doing the 50!
With so many events I've decided to give this one a miss and do the one at Port Macquarie the following weekend.
Boo hiss!
Perfect hit out for the new 29er hard tail if I get it finished in time, new bike , new race what possible could go wrong???
and that bit about i have been working in France, eating and drinking to much and haven't ridden for 3 weeks, should be a good weekend, just take it easy on me out on the track, the person who comes last has feelings as well.
And my brother convinced me to back it up next weekend as his mate English has designed the course at Port, actually a 60 year old named Garry deserves the credit for building the tracks around Jolly Nose, good tracks too, and he can ride leaves most younger people in his wake
Very disappointed. Lower back/pelvis has not come good in time.
Anybody planning on roughing it and camping at the event site ?
I have a few kids eager to roam around the forest. looks like a pretty reasobale area to camp from what I can see on the map.
@Cracked what are your plans ?
Current plan is to leave Friday morning arrive 2 ish setup camp, settle in foe a few bevys
Saturday mid morning course recon / some site seeing around Parkes
Sunday raceway head home.
Presuming open camp fires are OK in state forests ??
D
Dicko ,camping at the event site for me should arrive friday night ,will try and find you and camp nearby.
I'll be up for a slow ride on sat will prob just do 1/2 course.
see you there.
Business commitments means I too cannot attend
I am going to have a weekend away without wifey and co.
planning on popping the tent and a chair and putting the feet up on the esky!
i think it is going to be very cold...so I may join you by the fireplace Dicko
anyone keen for a morning blast on Monday...I am going to stay two nights! :)
I will be staying with friends in Orange friday night , should arrive early Sat morning, camping Sat night. So if you see a silver Nissan Navara with a Black Banshee with the big wheels on it(not to many of these around) thats me, come say hi. Usually the one at the back of the field keeping the sweep company.
I'm not camping but i will be staying there for 2 nights. I was going to take the missus around on monday. Nothing fast and crazy so we might start with you but chances are you will get bored and leave us in your dust.
Great event ,had a fat time when will the results be up?
Craig, they should be posted by tomorrow.
thanks Brian ,how come you Know all this stuff?

Down to the 1/1,000th of a second....
Impressive result for Craked as well - 3rd in Masters Blokes?? Hope you stayed for the presentation!!
Well done. Also Dicko 2nd in the masters.
Craig, did the podium only consist of the top 2 riders? If it was the top the I'd get them to adjust the results page to show the top 3 in the categories.
Thks Brian
happy with that result - my first podium - if only I was 2 sec fAster.
10th overall so very pleased with that.
Great stuff Craig for 3rd - don't think I would have gone so fast without you chasing me the whole way - great weekend
Will post a blog later
D
Fantastic result Wayne! Looking forward to reading your blog and catching up for a ride soon too.
My time for the 50 from last year would have put me inside the top 20 for Masters and well inside the top half of the field.
Ruddy lower back!
Next year!
well you may think so but the truth is that it was a longer course this year, seems that they added a couple K's at the last min. so we got to ride the "erosion" bowl of fun!
some distance markers would have been good towards the end. I started to pick my "pace" up at what I thought was about 10kms to go, only to find that (on my odometer at least) it ran out to about 54+ kms. The last 5kms were a bit of a struggle with no event centre in sight or loudspeakers to make it sound like the home straight....
@obmal, yes I wondered about that but one would hope that another year on the bike, knowing more about training and nutrition and having a more efficient ride would have seen me at least match last year's time on the slightly longer course.
So was it still dusty-loose or was it a bit more ridden-in than last year?
It was dusty and a whole bunch of fun! same time? but now you gotta wait till next year...
The last 5K's were all time, not sure if they had the same track at the end last year?
Yep, seriously bummed about missing it.
Last year it was rolling fire road climb which, while they weren't much, because you'd been on the gas non-stop for the last two-and-a-bit hours seemed a lot bigger than they really were. At the highest point you turned off to the right into a super-loose twisty singletrack downhill and then veered right again into flat bit for about a kilometre across some creek crossings before going under the finishing arch..
Looking at the Garmin traces it seems some/most of the rolling fire road climb was replaced with singletrack? That would fit with about 5km.
The race was great...too bad I had too finish with a bum shoulder.
The creek bank ride was great fun...the drop ins and climbs out of the creek really picked up the mood and added some fun towards the finish line.
I will be out again next year for sure!
It's on again in 2012!
