Training Partners?
Someone (from this forum!) who shall remain nameless has charmed me into joining his Mont 24 mixed sixes team, so now I've got to get all serious and do some training. Well, actually I was looking for an excuse to keep in shape and having him to blame is wonderfully convenient.
I'm going to be a bit scientific about this and use Mark Fenner's schedule published in AMB last year for 100km events. It seemed to work quite well for getting me somewhere near fit for the Back Yamma 50km. The only change I make is to follow Joe Friel's recommendation for older riders and run the recovery week on every third instead of every fourth, as I'm well north of 40.
My pace around Manly Dam is about 45 minutes at the moment to give you an idea. My preference would be for folks over 40, but younger riders would be welcome too so long as you don't mind the 2 week "on", 1 week "recovery" schedule.
On the menu for Sunday is four to five x 5 minute hill repeats with recovery in between, early on in a 2-3 hour endurance ride. I'm thinking up Duck Holes in reverse unless someone has a better idea as this will allow folks to manage their HR's better (if they have a monitor). The aim is to be doing those hill repeats up Quarry Climb in Cascades by the end of February or early March.
Is anyone is interested in joining me for a regular group training rides on Sundays?

hawkeye, I fit your target demographic and I'd like to commit to a regular session, but work/family etc will more than likely count that out. I'd like to come to the rides when able if that's possible. I'm close to cracking sub 40 mins for the dam...just...need...more...fitness/technique/balls...
Just post a ride every Sunday evening for the following Sunday and I'm sure you would get people joining in. Just limit the numbers and make sure you say its a training ride.
How about we start tomorrow morning?
The youngster has made me promise to take him surfing in the morning tomorrow, so this will need to start Sunday unfortunately.
... those signing on will get a copy of the training plan so we all know where we're at.
Would be keen to improve my fitness, especially after a four week holiday, but I am racing on Sunday so will miss the first session.
