Manly Dam BBQ
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
Picnic Area "D" it should be signposted NoBMoB.
Hi Everyone,
As discussed previously I have now got a date!
Time
22nd July the BBQ will start at 11am
Location
Picnic Area "D" it should be signposted NoBMob and we have this all day. this is the very first BBQ area on the right as you enter picnic area, its 300 yards up from the Hydro labs.
Rides
For those of you wanting to have a ride beforehand we could will meet at 9am at the hydro labs as per Pre BBQ Ride. May need to split into one or two groups depending on skill and fitness level.
Food???
Dunno how it would work but I was thinking of having a kitty BYO Food, drinks etc and bring nibbles to share.
RSVP
I think we will take a yes on that one so i can book an extra BBQ if necessary. Partners and family welcome!
If you want to park your car in the Manly Dam picnic area then you need either to have proof of living in the Manly-Warringah area or pay some money.
Ranger are welcome to pop over and say hi.
Bring on the festivities!
Andrew
Were you there and have a story to tell?

Looks good mate. I think I will partake in these festivities.
A possible delay? Roger that Red Leader, standing by.
Love rides and BBQ's and both together... perfect!
Just for the non australian and non lingo expert (me)
What is a 'kitty' and who's the read leader ??
And what is delayed Liam??
Cheers
Caro
The date is as planned (Sunday 22nd July) - sorry Christine
Red leader come after the ditty leader
Regarding the food - not sure if a few of us can buy the food and we all pay that person back or we can BYO everything. Anwyay send me your thoughts - I don't mind buying all the food if it makes it any easier and then people pay me back = kitty. But it depends on the whole RSVP thingy. However its probably easier if we do a mix of both (or did i just confuse everyone?)
Decision to me made early July....
Andrew
Kitty - a young domestic furball that attacks balls of wool, curtains and the heart strings of those who aren't allergic to felines...
(also a pool of money, especially one to which a number of people have contributed for a designated purpose =;o)
Read/Red Leader - A capable and well-respected pilot, from Star Wars, had a chance at destroying the Death Star during the Battle of Yavin. His shots, unfortunately, missed the critical thermal exhaust port, just impacting on the surface. He was killed shortly thereafter when his fighter was destroyed by Darth Vader.
And what was delayed was Liam's internet order...
=;o)
I vote BYO... anything else is just too hard to organise.
Bring on the winter sun
Will there be a plan B to adjourn to the pub if it's raining?
That's put a smile on my dial (for Carolin, I have a smile on my face)
but I can make it that weekend! hee hee
will be there - George and Mildred! I agree with Rob - byo everything then you know everyone will be happy.
Should be great fun!
MEEE
Shaun, you're the man! Got 'em all mate. Nice post.
Carolin, Shaun got a bullseye with every answer. Without your Star Wars trivia hat on, you would have been left in the dark (or the dark side? Not sure). We'll have to get you up to speed on this. But don't make me quote the whole movie for you here. (although I could!)
Bikes, Beer and Bangers on the BBQ. Does life get any better?
I'm In!
PS: Are we bringing the wife/husband and kids?
Mate, leave your husband at home, but the rest should probably be OK.
Greg, while your husband is off riding with us, you can always start on the salad and pre-heat the BBQ.
Thanks guys!
I am sitting here laughing myself dead (another german expression that does't sound quite right in english ???
How could I forget Starwars reading a post from YOU Liam!?! Please forgive me
I think we will have to organise a Starwars Triology marathon for the next rainy weekend, it's been waaaay too long..
Goodness Shaun how did you find THAT picture??? A bit scary to see what's out there!!
Am just picturing you guys in zebra suits riding the DH in Coffs, love it!!
C
Nice Zebra suit. Not sure who buys that at all, especially at RRP of $125.00. But there are some 'scum' on this site that might consider it if it was Zebra design in hot pink. Let us now ponder this and discuss at the Canberra weekend...
.... as long as Liam promisses not to wear his pink zebra suit!
BYO sounds like a good idea as does the 9 o'clock ride.
Hey my name is alex wagner
im only 15 would it be coool if i came
with a couple of guys we all
race at WSMTB...?
Cheers Alex.
There are no restrictions here mate, so turn up for a lap or two beforehand, and enjoy the company. There are not too many shy and retiring types here. Except for maybe Christine.
Hi, good to see you on this site Alex, I'm John Evans from around the corner.
Warning, watch out for this guy if doing the Woodford race this weekend, Alex is seriously fast. Cheers John Evans.
But won't be going for a pre bbq ride. See ya all when you get back.
Like Stuart, I can't make the ride (my wife is at a seminar), but I'll brings the kids and their bikes for the BBQ.
Hopefully they can exhaust themselves so Dad gets an afternoon nap.
and i am fairly sure George will bring the trials bike too...
we are both planning to do the ride too...
which it won't be... will we go to the Tavern?
AND! I realise it's daggy but will we have to wear name tags? There may be lots of lurrrrrkers there...
Dear oh dear... what do you think this is? Some kind of work function full of people with retarded social skills who don't know how to even introduce themselves?
That's a top idea Christine, I was just thinking something similar after looking at the weather report. Fingers crossed for nice weather.
but i do know for a fact some people have shocking memories when it comes to names ... and one person in particular will know who he is!!!
The only name you need to know
hi there,
i'd be interested in dropping by & meeting everyone.
i've just recently moved here and my wheels are still in the container. hoping to get the mountainbike out end july & then join you for some rides.
cheers
georgie
Georgie, it's an open invitation, everybody is welcome.
See you on Sunday
Hey Everyone,
Yeah always an open invitation!
So its BYO food and drink etc. Bring a few items to share ... some beer, chips and stuff???
I just realised that we will probably need all the plastic utensils and BBQ tools and sauces. I'll bring enough of the aformentioned stuff and one set of BBQ tools could someone bring another set of tools?
Andrew
Thanks for the tip...
See you there
Hi all,
I am keen to come along, meet you all and try the Dam.
Will someone post here if they think it is too wet?
Can't make it until about 11, but will do a lap and BYO for the BBQ.
Regards
Anthony
I plan on bringing an esky with ice, some soft drink, maybe some beeeeeer, and some bbq food (plenty of snags, bread, etc).
Are there any ladies out there who can make me a salad while I am doing my laps??
what makes you think girls are better at making salads than boys?
sorry...i will be riding too...
you don't win friends with salad!
Mmm, I take it that's a "no" from Christine. Anyone else?
Christine is wrong. Girls are better than boys at making a salad. You are better at most things. That is part of the reason why you are better than us - and why we ask you to do so much for us.
Wollies/Coles have premade salads including a dressing satchel, MAN where have you been???
Have just returned from OS and due to forgetfulness may not be able to make it now....
usually, with me, flattery will get you everywhere...but not this time buddy!!
will see if George can whip up a salad - he is good in the kitchen...
Liam??
I very probably, most likely, unfortunately won't be riding but if I ever had the slightest thought to prepare one... GONE!!
You better get up early if you want to do salad AND riding my dear, I'll be sleeping in
Okay, flattery eh? I'll keep it in mind. I should warn you though, being just a man, I have a short attention span.
(I see a "Who's new" with the name of George and Mildred. WTF?)
Ooops. You're not angry are you?
bringing a really nice couscous and pumkin salad with chick peas and beans which you will be more than welcome to share, probably also a green salad. Maybe a little new age but I'm sure an open minded, lycra wearing boy like yourself won't be complaining.
As for these other so called women, clearly they don't appreciate the efforts men like you and I go to in order to maintain our peak physical condition, snags alone just won't cut it, a healthier option is surely required. I'll even save a spot on our blanket for you mate should you want, and I've organised "cafe2u" to stop bye with our latte's and your chocolate milk
Jeeze, whats this world of equality coming to, right fine mess if you ask me
need a little help: how do i best get there (car & stroller)?
is there a parking area nearby?
georgie
If you go to King Street, Manly Vale and just keep driving (past the Hydraulics Lab and Ranger Station), that's the picnic area.
Plenty of parking so no dramas. See you there.
thanks mate, gps says it knowns now where it is.
see you tomorrow
georgie
Here they are... BBQ Winter 2007.
Great way to spend a few hours post-ride... thanks to Lorrie for the organisation
Good Morning!
Thanks Lorrie for organising the greatd day out!
Was a bit sceptical when I drove over and it started pouring, then saw Liam and Steve who had just finished their second lap and looked like they had taken a bath in a mud puddle!
Would have never thought we would spend a whole day??
Loads on food and catching up with everybody old, new, better halfs and all the kids! Great fun!
I'll leave the write up to you Ditty
Have a good day!
C
Had a fabulous day all up thank you to everyone - great job on the venue Andrew.
Had a lovely ride (in hindsight again!!!) but much nicer ride than that bloody Tuesday nighT effort!
Was really nice to see so many people turn up and have fun and meet partners/wives and children! Hope you all enjoyed yourselves too!!
It was GREAT! Hope to see some of the 'newbies' out on rides now!
MEEE
Top effort there lorrie!
Great idea and although the weather was a little otherwise initially, it ended up being a super day!
It was fun to 'discover' other facets to ppl...
My son has already asked when the next one is!
