Suspension Question's
Hello everyone, how have we all been??
Just some suspension related questions, ive got a fox f120r front fork, and a fox rp2 on the back and with the front fork i think im due for new seals. One question i have is are you due for new seals when u touch the fork and theres a slight oil residue or is that just normal? And the second and final question is how on earth do u set up the pro-pedal on the rear :S I switch around the settings and there is no difference at all..
Thanks for the help in advance

You shouldn't get residue up your stanchans so, yeah I'd say you are due for new seals.
With the rear is it an rp2 or rp23?
the RP2 has two positions. !: Open(or pro pedal off) which is towards the valve
and Propedal on, way from the valve
RP23 is similar but you have the option to set the propedal hard medium or soft
I still reckon on a bike with a good suspension design pro pedal isn't needed and unless your the princess from the princess and the pea you wont be able to tell the difference between on and off.
If the suspension design is lacking then, yeah it makes a big difference.
I run a Giant X2 and can certainly tell the difference between pro pedal on and off. Riding up hills is a subtle difference from a feeling perspective, although from time I think it does make a difference.
Where I really notice it though is on flatter sections with a bit of undulation; with pro pedal on the bike is a lot stiffer and you don't lose the momentum from the bike bobbing around.
Interesting about the RP23 dial being about pre-pedal stiffness; must admit I hadn't played with this a lot... thought it was just a general suspension setting, will try playing with it with pro-pedal in mind
Theres no oil up on the stanchions at all. Theres pretty much just a very fine coat over the actual fork (travel) it looks like theres just enough for lubrication but apparently there should be zero oil there at all.
By the way i have the exact same bike as you danielschipper, exact same set up assuming your bike is stock. And i can safely asume that you also love it!
Its not that ill actually use the pro-pedal, its just that i like to no i have it if i do need to use it and at the moment with the way the pro-pedal is set up i really cant tell the difference between on and off. The way ive set my suspension up, i really don't even bother with the front lock out even, i just sit back and climb with tones of grip. Climbs up heath track no problem
And its an rp2, not an rp 23.
Thanks.
If it is just a very thin film that this is sounds like the fork working normally. They should coat the stanchions as they travel up and down to reduce friction.
As for the Pro Pedal - is your air volume correct. I tend to go by sag rather than recommended air pressure. I recently bought a new frame and when I used the recommended settings, I too couldn't feel pro-pedal engage. When I increased the air to give me about 25% - 30% sag (depends on your style, 25% for a firmer ride, 30% if you like it plush) as a starting point but again it differs depending on your suspension type.
Other are correct that good suspension designs don't really need it, but it can be useful on the odd big climb. If in doubt, take it to your LBS and get their input.
Yeah, I set my sus with sag rather than recommended pressure also. I run 20ish % with my XC bike.
As for Propedal. I run an RP23 in my Carbon Rush and can certainly notice the difference when riding. Propedal off, the plushness and level of traction going down is awesome and does bob a bit when pedalling along the flat/uphill. Turn the propedal on and it's 'almost' like a hardtail for pedalling and climbing, but downhill traction is sacrificed.
I'm a bit with you Jonathon. I also have a 2010 Trance X2 and have never noticed all that much difference with the pro-pedal on or off. I am not small at 94kg but would have expected it to make more difference than it appears to. The guys at BA spent a decent amount of time watching me ride and adjusting things as they saw although it at the time. Probably worth playing around with sag and seeing what difference that makes as I have a shock pump the air pressure seems correct.
I have my suspension set up for sag.. not pressure. i like to run everything a bit soft just so everything is nice and plush. Maybe a lack of pressure in the rear could be contributing to the pro pedal not working properly??
if you're like me, you need to change the pro pedal spring for a heavier one. I'm 100kg, and on my pivot, I would blo straight past the pro pedal spring. I couldn't feel a difference, on or off. I got Simon from TBSM to change the pro pedal spring to a heavier one. It's much better now. Almost feels like it locks out on the number 3 setting.
Not sure im only about 78kg so it might be possible.
