Is camping on friday night an option again this year?

No tent for me, just in the car.

Lach's picture

Any details yet on the loop(s) to be used and approx length?

Fatboy's picture

I heard it is the 12km loop.

Scottboy's picture

yep your faithful sweep/track marshall will be there following you out & you will probably pass me on your second lap on the side of the track somewhere say hi & keep on riding...

GAZZA's picture

Anyone got the heads up on weather and track conditions after today?

Scottboy's picture

I 'm trying to call a mate who should be camping there tonight without calling Martin or Juliane. If I hear from him b4 9.30 tonite I will post .

clouds hovering over the Watagans all day-Awaba copes O.K with small amounts of rain

GAZZA's picture

Decided to pull the pin.
Hate wasting the entry fee but I hate buggering up my bike more!

Lenny_GTA's picture

Not a huge amount of rain overnight. I hate seeing races held in the wet, but I think this event will see a generally fast and tacky Awaba.

The rainforest sections will be full of slippery roots though, just to keep it interesting. Only question mark would be how well the new stuff at the back of the red loop has bed in.

Fatboy's picture

The track was surprisingly good Gazza. No rain at all during the event. Track was damp but grippy. Certainly not damp enough to play havoc with chains. I nearly pulled the pin too but it turned out to be a good day.

DAMIT! DAMIT!

Dicko's picture

Hey Craig

I was looking out for you but didnt see you today.

I agree with the track - by lunch time track was pretty damn good - lots of grip into the corners.

How did you go today ?

Dicko

Fatboy's picture

Hey Dicko, I was the guy walking up the switchback. I was sitting on ps for half of lap 1 till we hit the climbing and it was all over for me. I've found this year my herniated disc is fine on the 100km type events but when I do switchbacks where you come to a stop then accelerate then it plays up. I managed to do 3 laps at a reasonable pace but at the end of each I'd lay down & stretch while playing with my kids but lap 4 I was toast and did a lot of walking so pulled out at the end of the lap. Hopefully I can get right for 3 ring circus in a couple of weeks.

How'd you go? I thought I saw you while I was standing off to the side on one of the climbs trying to man up. Did you have a CBD top on?

Dicko's picture

Ot CBC but is was a black and orange top.

Yeah it wasn't too bad today - knocked out 5 laps - but I wouldn't say it was easy. Kept a constant pace of around 45 min laps - with a stop after each lap for food / drink about min. Hard course to keep nutrition up.

It was a good training ride as a lead up for the husky. Very well organized event so pretty happy overal - sounds like Paul had a good day out. You guys must of been a Lille ahead of me at the start - I ot stuck in a lot of traffic first lap.

D

ps's picture

I didn't think I started that far back but got traffic for most of the first lap. 45 min laps are OK. I did a 47 on the first then 42 for the second when it was clearer. Took English nearly 3 hours to lap me as I think he was doing 32/34 min laps. I stopped for a while so only did 5 laps.

Dicko's picture

Sounds like we were pretty close then. I think English got me on lap 4.

Yeah after doing 5 laps I think would have struggled heading out for another.

Rode the hard tail today - An my body is aching all over tonight. Need to do more riding on this if I am going to do longer events on it.

Well done guys.

Brian's picture

Hey Wayne, are you using the HT for the Husky?

Fatboy's picture

Ok I did see you then Dicko, it was a black & orange top I saw. It was on a switchback climb and I pulled to the side & let a couple of you past when I was in the hurt box.

Yeh ps & I did get a good start. We would have been about top 15-20 but hit the back of the 8hr field after about 2km.

Re Husky - it's a hard tail track. I don't have one at the moment so will pump the shock up and run 50psi in the tyres.

Dicko's picture

Yep Brian that is the plan for the husky.

I really noticed it on the climbs today and tight switch backs - so much easier to accelerate out of the cnrs - even when tired. Looking forward to that climbing single track on the second part of the husky.

I missed a little more suspension on the downhills though after a couple of laps.

I hear you. Its amzing how responsive they are.

Scottboy's picture

but when you are trying too tell everyone too slow down thru timing it is hard too see your name on the number plate , I was on the left as you come under the redbull arch with a flouro vest on for a while then went out for a lap didn't even get too the 4km mark when I assisted a injured lady getting back too the event centre , we walked for over 2kms along & across the track too get back to the event centre . Beside a bugger of a track to get a injured rider back too the event centre I did the sweep after the last 8 hr went thru & the track was really good & fun I can understand when it is hard too keep up the nutrition & fluids there isn't alot of places except heading uphill , hope everybody that turned up had a good day & are ready for Dargle & those that had a no show oh well , sorry Gazza but it was a sweeeet track ..

evan's picture

Was very surprised how well the track held up. Driving up to Awaba, hit a few rain spots and thought is this going to be worth it. Arrived at the track and saw the damp ground, thought should I do this. Didn't regret my decision to do this. Track was great, few damp spots but it got better during the race.
