Hey guys,

....sorry if this has alreayd been covered.

Can anyone recommend a clinic or dr on the northern beaches?

Me = had yet another stack (3 big ones the past 2 months). Sprains etc not doing so well or healing...

I loathe going to drs that simply say "why do such silly sports...etc etc..." and I am really concerned about proper healing for some big events this year.

handy hints and thoughts are appreciated.

thank-you.
Anna

I've used this guy before, he is really good. Says he specialises in "Climbing/mountaineering.Triathlon. Cycling. Running."

Also, i think Xrays are a waste of time.

If it's any back problems I rate John Swain at Northern Beaches Chiropractor, based in Manly.

I've had plenty of OTB stacks (much to my riding mates amusement). He specialises in sports injury.

While I haven't been there myself, Gordo gave me the details of Dr Stewart Watson at Narrabeen Sports Medicine a while ago and said he's been using him for years. Guys like Gordo (who's had his fair share of injuries) can't afford to faff around when they are injured.

I would expect that all the people there of high quality, the two I have seen were top notch. I saw Dr Watson (a long time ago) when I had a partial shoulder dislocation and he got me to see the right people at RNS straight away. Very comforting to know that the paralysis would only be for a few months. After the initial diagnosis by the RNS specialist Dr Watson took the time to show me the medical books and explained that not all nerve damage is permanent. Also saw the knee surgeon in the Sports Medicine rooms while doing my knee rehab at the physio across the hallway.

If you need physio to assist the rehab they will offer the option of the team across the hallway. Antony Bush is a cyclist so should be your preference however I saw all of them at times during my knee rehab and they were all good. Also liked the open plan format of the physio room as it made the 1.5-2 hours physio sessions bearable.

+1 for Dr Stuart Watson

Dr Roe did the operation. I still haven't watched the video. Six months rehab if your in your 20's, 9 if your masters.

and I thought my Microdiscecectomy on my L5/S1 was a long recovery period, which was a 3-4month recovery period, before I could even engage in anything and even after that I was limited to Yoga lol.

you should still be doing yoga if your serious about riding !! Smiling

Thanks for all the replies (god this forum is soooo handy sometimes)

I ended up going to the Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre.

Professional - awesome and helpful.

They are just as concerned as you about your bones and realise all you want to do is get back on your bike.
highly reccommend.
cheers,

So how are you going. Are you back riding?

Hey Brian - I am on the roadie but still not back on the mtb.

I hold my hands in a different position on the roadie and they are still "sussing out" the wrist.

I had an MRI yesterday (those things are c-r-a-z-y) and have another appt tomorrow to discuss long term- hoping to ride the mont ...the dr said if all else fails they can give me a cortisone shot for the weekend ride.

fingers crossed.
