Hi guys / girls.

I have my first race coming up and just after any advice some of the vetrans can give me. I know its a bit of a vaige question but any knowledge you can pass on would be great. I am racing in the Banzai LifeCycle at Mount Annan the 24km event. My training has been going well getting quicker and more confident every time I ride.

Cheers

Stay hydrated and eat little bits often. In a longer race nutrition is very important

nah K's not hr's I think.

"Choose from 10, 25 or 40 kilometre options on beginner-friendly, yet exciting tracks."

I'm guessing your in the 25k one. As a rough guess, that might be 1 - 1.5 hours at Mount Annan, maybe more with congestion? 1 hour is pretty much a sprint. I'd warm up first. Everybody is different.

The 25k event sounds like a good one to go in.

Find out as much as you can about the loop, as in distance of each lap, that's important as you don't want to get half way through a lap with no water, so you can plan your hydration, food may not be as important if you're only riding an 1 1-1/2 hours! Don't blast off on the first lap, take it easy find a nice rythum once the track clears a little, also try not to stop anywhere but at transition after a lap, if you get tired tough it out until you get back to the transition area.

Have fun and enjoy yourself apparently the banzai is aimed at first timers so it shouldn't be to chaotic.

it is not really a full on race it is more of an endurance ride I believe , everytime you do one of these events your time is recorded & carried thru too the next event . It is another form of racing the only person pushing u along is you . It is a more relaxed atmosphere to the full on race some of us generally ride in . Another thing would be to get too ride the track as soon as you can so u know where too use & save your energy too , Mt Annan track is one of a kind too the more turns you can remember the better your ride especially the uphill climbing bits too as it will make your ride fun

Relax. Pretend you are
riding alone. Newbies tend to get cought up in the exitement. They tend to get out of their depth. If make sure your familiar with the trail etiquette ie. Move aside when someone yells track etc. Otherwise just ride have fun and relax

Hi Jono B,

There's some great advice above. Getting a few practice laps in at Mt Annan beforehand would be really great. It will allow you to relax and enjoy the event.

Now that your will be really into XC races - come out and try the clubs series at WSMTB (see www.wsmtb.com) !

regards,

Cheers for all the advise guys. Can't wait. I've ridden around Mt Annan a few times already. Heading there again this weekend it's a great track. It will be hard not to be caught up in all the excitement on the day.
