wet and dry Wingello
I arrived at the forest camp on sat arvo after driving through rain and found lots of water and mud around, met up with Steve (CROMERBOY) who was setting up camp,we were going to have a ride but pulled the pin on that prefering to keep the bikes clean and functioning for tomorrow. We drove up to the event centre and got rego out of the way then relaxed over a cold beer at our campspot enjoyed some good food that was for sale and got a good nights sleep.
sunday morning presented clear skys, we made our way up to the start area I was feeling nervous and unsure so I took position on the grid towards the back as I didn't want to get in anyones way being a novice at this type of event. From the start I found I was getting held up so I put some pace on and started to cut through the slower riders this didn't stop for most of the first lap and the first bit of single track was a total blockageI eventually caught some riders who were traveling at a good pace but I used a lot of energy to catch them so I settled in behind them to get a rest but soon I found the going to slow and made a move and broke away from them allthough a couple of them came with me and we continued passing more riders .I was pleased to finish the first lap and stopped for a quick drink and a banana, meanwhile a bunch of riders who I had passed went by while I was stopped, so off I went after them I soon repassed them and contiued on I could feel some cramps comming but pushed on to the end .was very happy with my time and position and Steve filled the next position only 3 mins behind me. what an excellent event and fitting tribute to willo such a good atmosphere at the event centre and so well organised can't wait till next year . oh yeah I might try getting a bit closer to the front at the start next time
