Yup all one piece.

Gazza, cant believe those brakes only lasted 10 kms, they were freakn metal!!

I pulled Yalonda apart yesterday, other than the crack in the triangle, everything else seems, well repairable.

New brakes, new bottom jockey wheel, looks like a ninja star, new chain, I think the cassette may be ok for a short time. Fortunately everything else seemed to be ok.

Logan, you've got 5 days to recover, young bloke like you will be back together in no time.

Can't wait for next weekend, to do it all again.

Antsonline's picture

I was literally in the car driving to Wisemans to ride with you all.
I changed my mind halfway, and reading this (with my bike all warm and clean in thew garage) how glad am I that I didnt show!

Well done to all for getting it done.
For what its worth, we all know that the draining on the track is incredible. It only needs one day of dry and it will be very fast, other than a few big splash puddles.
Its often dryer there than it is on the coast or in Sydney, so I still hold out hope for a fairly dry race (although will be starting in black socks rather than white).

I hope you all get your kit sorted in time (and bodies in some cases!) and that you make it to the start line.

p.s. I (and significant other) will be riding with a spare set of pads in the saddle bag, just in case they are shot by the top of the final mental descent. Trying to brake using your foot on the rear tyre would be tough on that one!

Fatboy's picture

@Logan - bad luck Andy but don't give up yet. Arnica cream will fix it. Strap your wrist up for race day and you'll be right. You've ridden all the technical stuff other than Shepherds Gully and the rest is smooth firetrail/single track so your wrist will only take a pounding for about 15km of the 100. How's the leg?

@Tommy - how did you get on with replacing the rear triangle?

@Dicko - yeh you're right, resin are fine in the dry or mucking around, just no good for racing or in the wet. I was just venting after a frustrating day and was well into my bottle of red Smiling I finished building the bike this morning so all I need to do tonight is put the new chain on and I'm ready for race day. I don't normally carry any spares other than a tube during a race but after our weekend and looking ahead at the weather forecast I'm going to carry spare pads and tools grrrr!

Hans's picture

Hi Craig (@Fatboy)

Eeew...that makes it $ 3500 for repairs - must be a new record for replacing parts after a muddy ride....
Must be those gold-plated, ultra-light FRM parts Sad
Long live Shimano LX ! Smiling (at least that's what I thought when I recently replaced my son's ~ 6 year old steel chainrings and cassette...bit heavy, but still going OK after 100's of muddy rides and being left in the rain - i.e. a typical teenager's bike)

Logan's picture

That will go all the colours of the rainbow before it goes away I think, it isnt to bad really, just a bit sore but it isnt hugely painfull which is good, but yeah the wrist is more troubling, we will see how we go this week. Might just get the g.f to tape it up hardcore and race with it and see what happens. I am really hoping for a dry day.

Just ordered some new brake pads, I dont think my BB and Cassette are toast as there was no chain suck or anything like that. Hubs dont sound brilliant, but I am sure a clean and regrease will resolve that as I think its grit in the bolt thru's that is the issue. Dont see the point in replacing the cassette for a new one to get trashed again on the weekend.

I am still hopeful of riding, the racer in me is itching to get back out there and do well regardless of the weather.

Brian's picture

As long as you haven't broken anything just strap your wrist. Waiting for no pain from a wrist injury takes forever. Mine is still sore after (slowly getting better) an OTB the week before the Mont.

Knowing what you're like you be there for sure Eye-wink

Fatboy's picture

Hi @Hans

If it was all FRM parts that were destroyed then I wouldn't be out of pocket. The rotors and bottom bracket are FRM. The drivetrain is SRAM XX, forks are FOX Terralogic and the borrowed brakes I was using are Shimano. I haven't replaced the fork - will know after a couple of rides this week whether it needs replacing straight away. If so, then yes, full retail of all components damaged exceeds $3K.

Logan's picture

Basically looks like I have broken my scaphoid, have to go to the hand clinic tomorrow morning to confirm but the hospital are pretty sure about it.

Not good.

Dicko's picture
Logan's picture

still am not pleased, but hoping i might get lucky tomorrow at the hand clinic and they i am ok to go.

one handed typing is rubbish.

Matt_B's picture

That's a bummer Logan
Good luck with the Specialist

Antsonline's picture

Thats dreadful luck. I hope it works out for you.

On the bright side, you'll make a great bottle boy though, and also photographer / heckler at the canoe bridge though.....and will also be able to enjoy the Settlers Arms to the fullest extent on the Sat night.....

Fatboy's picture

No good Andy. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

philberesford's picture

Sorry to hear that. Still don't quite understand why your Yeti would throw you, were you not treating it hard enough? Did it see a snake and get spooked? Poor Yeti.

Hope the hand heals soon fella

Logan's picture

Lol I was treating it hard enough, was hitting drops and everything, just my own fault for running out of talent.

I am hopeful for tomorrow.

Brian's picture

Not good news, good luck for tomorrow.

hawkeye's picture

... for me. Eye-wink Spent way too much time there myself. Sad

Bummer about the injury. At least you've acted quickly.

Being old and stubborn I didn't want to admit there was a problem and it was 6 months before my scaphoid was good. Kept telling myself it was just a sprain. The specialist ticked me off (deservedly) for being an ass and putting it off so long. Eary intervention would have shortened recovery a lot.

Hope you get a favourable diagnosis tomorrow.

doc's picture

One handed typing doesn't sound good. Good luck for tomorrow

Rob's picture

Oops... that's what you get for taking the pi$$. Sorry mate Sad

Don't mess about with your injury. You're young and it should heal fast enough so no need to rush it. You can easily get on the wind trainer every night and not loose fitness. Not sure it's the same thing, but there's a guy at work who got too active after a wrist injury and then had all sorts of troubles so take care.

Black Flash's picture

Seems like Monday was costly for a few people in more ways than one. Wish you all speedy recovery's and rebuilds!
@Logan - wrists are a bugger, even when they arent broken...
Im still waiting for my bike to be rebuilt... Only been a month... Sad

Fatboy's picture

P$&&$@:g myself laughing - just got an email from Tommy. His repairs rivaled mine. I reckon the rest of you blokes who think you got away with just worn pads haven't checked your bikes properly Smiling

Dicko's picture

Craig / Tommy

You can't leave it at that - please tell all !

D

Fatboy's picture

@Dicko - hey Wayne, I'll let Tommy tell his war story. I finished my rebuild last night so got up early this morning and went for a ride. I'm stoked that I didn't need to fiddle with anything so the bike is ready for race day. The new cassette can stay in it's box as the chain meched fine with the old cassette.

Tommy's picture

Well lets just say, carbon Isn't very strong. Somewhere on the ride I seemed to have smacked the carbon brake side seat stay half way up, on a rock, had a nice crack in it, as the thing is one piece, it had to be replaced. Repairable??? You ever repaired a tennis racquet, its never the same. Benefit, the Yeti (Yalonda) no longer has 9mm skewer on the back. Price, not saying. I'm grateful to Paul, ozzie Yeti rep and the blokes at TBSM they have helped me out heaps.

New chain, but I kinda knew that was out, with the chain suck etc.

New cassette, I let the chain go a tad too long, middle cogs were sharp and pointy.

New jockey wheels, the lower one was........almost round.

Oh and brakes, pads only.

That's all. Was it all related to the ride the other day? Other than the replacement of the rear triangle.......nup!!

Leave it to you to calculate the ching ching. I would say as a guess, collective estimate for the 8 of us is somewhere above $5k

Goes with out saying you gotta pay for pleasure!!

Bring on the Dirt Works, bike shop owners must be rubbing their hands together, let it rain let it rain let it rain!!

Dicko's picture

Tommy

Only needed to replace the rear triangle right ? (Not that this isnt bad enough) So you have ended up with 142mm / 12mm rear axle combo now ?

You will definitely notice the difference in stiffness with this.

I am surprised a knock or rock on the rear seat stay would crack the carbon. Must have been a pretty hard knock. I have had many a tumble on the 575 without any issue.

Anyway good to hear you have great after sales from TBSM / Yeti Oz that is extermely positive.

Wayne

Tommy's picture

Only the triangle. But on the plus its gonna go heaps faster, well it has the potential to go heaps faster, pity about the engine!!

I hear ya, been over the bars stacks, why this time for something I can't recall?? Who knows.

Shouldn't detract from the fact the Yeti is still a super bike.

Logan's picture

No break on the X-ray which is good, back in cast which is bad however I will have another X-ray next Thurs which will potentially give me the all clear, if no further damage appears. So no DW100 however should be right for Coota.

ps's picture

While the timing's bad for the dirtworks race if they cant find a break next week then its not a bad result overall (do some research on how long it takes the motorcycle road racers to come back from a break if you want a scary bad news story).

btw there is nothing wrong with your skills, I have seen you ride and you wouldn't be doing the times you have been recently if you didn't have some talent. When you get back on the mountain bike give me a call and we will go and do some drop off training. When you learn the proper technique for drop offs you wont go OTB anymore. So don't go getting inexperience confused with a lack of talent.

Brian's picture

Was the OTB because you hesitated or did you just get it all wrong?

Logan's picture

Was taking the piss out of myself more than anything, I dont think I am untalented on the MTB, I do think my skills could improve, however racing Ourimbah has definitly helped in that regard, however drop off training will be helpfull. On the way back on Sunday down a few of those rock sections I nailed some of the drop offs so I know I can do it.

As for how I came off Brian, more a case off we were on one of the steep rock technical sections and there some people coming the opposite direction so I slowed down, which then caused me to hesitate about my line choice and then I didnt get the front wheel lined up properly. I wasnt going quickly and yeah the front wheel got caught and over I went. I think if I had been hitting it at pace I would of just gone for it and it prolly wouldnt of been a issue.

Fatboy's picture

Andy, can't you get the cast moulded while you're gripping your bike? Maybe something that slides onto the bar and leaves a finger sticking out to operate your brake? Actually if it's wet again you won't even need brakes because they don't work anyway!

hawkeye's picture

That's good news Andy. Hope you get the confirmation next week. Smiling

Sinkes's picture

Pity, you were ready for a big one too....
ps you could ride with me at the back of the field with all the other injured riders.
Team sponsor:Neuofen +
Dr told me to rest for another 2 weeks.......hmmn.
Get well soon, or I'll see you on start line. Eye-wink

Logan's picture

Not gonna risk it, I have a road race next week which I could potentially be ready for if the cast comes off, so not gonna risk it for the sake of one race, there will always be the DW2012.

2nd year in a row injury has stopped me racing DW lol.
