Site newbie/ Manly Dam help?
Hi,
I really like this site, the maps, presentation, helpfulness is off the charts. Always wanted to go for a ride through oxford falls and did so on the weekend. On the numerous times I felt lost one look at the maps had me back on track. It was a great ride and an awesome workout, sliding up those hills took everything I had but was still very enjoyable.
My question about Manly Dam is this: How busy is it through out the week/weekends? I ask because I have a knee problem and I get a bit worried if I am holding people up, that being said I can go at a fair pace but I have to be cautious about coming off.
But most of all I just dropped by to say hi, any help on some beginner techy tracks would be good too.

Hey, welcome, and thanks for the nice comments
To answer your question about Manly Dam - don't feel worried at all. There are many, many different skill levels around so you won't be out of place no matter what pace you ride at.
There are only a couple of places the trail is not wide enough to pass, and given it's not a race track those that might be behind you in these places should just wait and be happy to take a breather - means they can push harder later on if they are training, right?
I've even come across a young family walking their bikes down the quick downhill fire trail section! No one gets in the way and any rider who is quicker will wait for a safe place to push past. Word of caution, if you feel like there's someone on the back of your tail acknowledge them but try not to keep looking back at them as this could cause you to crash! It's the responsibility of any riders behind you to make a safe pass.
Enjoy Manly Dam, it's a good workout and offers plenty of technical challenges as you get more confident! You may even be one of the quicker ones out there.
Only two pet hates... People going the wrong way and using the track when it’s closed due to weather conditions. That really gets up my goat!
Teeps, I've taken my little bloke thru Manly Dam, he's 5 and half. My wife dropped us off at the top, off Wakehurst Parkway, we walked down the fast DH section just as andyfev mentioned and i rode where he felt comfortable and pushed down the bits he didn't. As the gents mention, it's not a race track and we always see people who are new to the sport and seeking assistance or knowledge from more experienced riders. Line choices, which way do I go etc. I've helped new riders with tricky sections of track, plenty of people with mechanic failures, patching up bits to get people back to their cars and also a couple of injuries.
Locals will look after you mate as long as you look after and respect the track.
Will check it out ASAP, well once it's green lighted again . Looking forward to being around this site more often.
