Drivetrain Compatability

Few questions about drivetrain Compatability with shimano and SRAM both having new stuff on the market in both 2 x 10 and 3 x 10. every review I read focuses on one brand or anther but not anything about the mix of the two.

Anyway currently I run, SRAM XO rear derailuer, SRAM 990 rear cassette, SRAM X0 shifters front and rear, Avid Juicey brakes, XTR front derailuer, XT 3 x 9 Crankset, XTR chain. The mix of XT / XTR on the front deraileur and crankset with SRAM rear works great and I have never experienced any problems.

My questions, can this same type of mix be done with the current drivetrains from each manufacturer.

I.e

2 x 10 SRAM X0 cassette
2 x 10 SRAM X0 rear deraileur
2 x 10 SRAM X0 shifters
2 x 10 Shimano Dynasys XTR or XT crankset
Shimano XTR front derailuer
Shimano XTR chain

Does changing the above spec from SRAM X0 to XX make a difference to the answer ?

Does changing the above spec from 2 x 10 to 3 x 10 make a difference to the answer ?

Finally one last question are XTR chainrings compatable with an XT M770 crankset ?

Any advice would be helpful.

the only things that need to be 'paired' are rear shifter and rear mech, and BB and cranks.
Otherwise, you can run Shimano / Sram cross-over all over your bike.

Changing to 2x10 wont change anything, XX or X0 wont affect it either.

If you are running a 2x10 front mech (i.e. XX or any SRAM from 2011) then it will be a nightmare to get it to work with 3x10

It unlikely that the XTR rings will work on the M770 chainset - although it depends on which XTR crankset it is.

Hope that helps.
What also may help is that I have a couple of XX front mechs still in boxes at home, and also an XX Chainset sat doing nothing too. If you are keen, drop me a line.
