craked's picture

if the rain stops on wed as predicted should be all good , the kessel run does not drain well so we will see what happens, however the Campbelltown loop drains very well and will be good even if it rains till friday.so fingers +ed Smiling

Dicko's picture

Maybe some MT Annan laps after the Campbeltown loop ?

Ivo's picture

Might see u there.

craked's picture

that is possible depending on time and how we feel .It would most likely end up a small group as the campbeltown loop is challenging! Eye-wink

Pete B's picture

I'm interested in joining you but not sure if my fitness/skills are up with you all. Will you be going hell for leather or is it a bit of a casual ride?

Ivo's picture

I'm out for sunday Craig, just doing a local ride.
Enjoy the ride. See you next time!

craked's picture

There is still a spot left for this ride so you are welcome to join us,the pace may be a little slower than normal, ie...(when Dicko and I ride together)
as I crashed my commuter in the rain yesterday and have a bit of bark off and a few stitches in my elbow, Sad slicks are very unpredictable in the wet!

hawkeye's picture

I have a mult-bike roof rack with a slot available for one more rider if you are interested, Pete. I am on the northern beaches at Frenchs Forest and am swinging thru Manly to pick up Sasc.

Pete B's picture

Thanks for the offer of a lift but I'll meet you there to save you coming more out of your way. ( I'm in the East). I have a ute and work pays for my fuel so transport is no problems.
See you there at 8am - looking forward to it Smiling

Edit:- could someone put a mark on google maps/earth where the meeting point is please?

craked's picture

hey Pete, I wouldn't have a clew how to do that! but if you type Ulmarra ave south Camden NSW into google maps it will come up and the meeting point is at the dead end of Ulmarra ave

Pete B's picture

Perfect, thanks!

herzog's picture

Here you go, full directions from the East:

Rob's picture

You do realise that's what the 'meeting point address' field is for! Sticking out tongue

Dicko's picture

Craig

I assume we are still riding both venues described above and things are drying up Ok ?

craked's picture

As I mention earlier I crashed my commuter in the rain on wednesday and seriously gashed my elbow after a lot of pain yesterday I went back to the doc who informed me it is infected and the infection has got into the joint ,I can barely move my arm this morning and need to Immobilize my arm and take strong antibiotics, the bottom line is I won't be doing any cycling this weekend .....I am gutted by this.I figure that you guys could still do the first part of the ride as it is pretty straight forward but stage 2 of the ride is complicated and took me several trips out there to work out and link up, alternatively we could postpone to another date ,let me know your thoughts
Craig Sad

Pete B's picture

I feel for you mate. Hope you make a speedy recovery and get back on two wheels soon.

I'm happy to still meet and do the first part of the ride.

The second part could be done another time when Craig has recovered.

hawkeye's picture

Sorry to hear about the infection. Sounds like they didn't get all of the foreign matter out of your wound. Sad

Postpone is preferred. Multi-tasking (keeping the rubber side down while worrying about getting lost) is not one of my strong points Sticking out tongue

craked's picture

maybe you could hit up mount Annan after for a couple of laps to make the travel worthwhile.

jdb's picture

Mount Annan has been closed since monday. With the sun the last few days, I hopefully it opens today/tomorrow, would be great for a hot lap there this weekend.

Hope your wounds heal quickly, would be keen for this ride another time.

herzog's picture

I'm definitely still keen for the Camden run and would be happy to also tackle Mt Annan afterwards if open. Or Appin XC.

craked's picture

If you go to trail flix it has a description of how to find the start of the trail ,it's easy to find, have fun!

herzog's picture

Sorry to hear about your wipeout Craked! I was also battling with the commute on slicks in the weather earlier in the week so I empathise - it would have been miserable!

Just had a thought - does anyone have a GPX/KML of the campbelltown track? I can load it up and we can follow that?

Dicko's picture

Hey Craig

Have just read this now - real bad luck - hope you recover well and the infection clears up soon.

Will postpone to another time.

D

Scottboy's picture

i think cromerboy has the garmin link from there he did earlier in the year with Craked ? By my memory they rode it the day of the Mt Annan opening ?

Pete B's picture

Surely getting lost is part of the fun?!?! Laughing out loud

craked's picture

only for the camden river run not for the campbelltown loop

herzog's picture

So who's still in?

I'm a definite starter for Camden and will likely head across to Appin after.

andyfev's picture

Hope the infection heals quickly, sounds like a nasty wound... best of luck Smiling

hawkeye's picture

and assuming this cough is just the result of the cold ride home last night (and not the start of another man flu Sad ), Sasc and I are still up for it.

Pete B's picture

I'm in.

herzog's picture

See you guys at 8am Sunday!

Sasco's picture

Sorry to hear this - alas.. unavoidable part of this sport - get well soon.. antibiotics are a must in such case.. (how did they cope in the past - without them?!)

However, yes, I am very very keen.. =)

Benno88's picture

The mrs has given me a leave pass so I thought I might as well come and join in as I haven't ridden out that way before. See you at there a bit before 8am.

craked's picture

lol Sasc , I think they took a lot longer to get get over things and had a lot more amputees.
have a great day out there you will love this trail.if you want to make the river run longer ,when you get to the end of the single track jump the wire fence and follow the fire road out to menangle and back is a good chance to stretch your legs before you get back into the tight single track again. Adds about 5 km to the ride.

andyfev's picture

Just convinced myself that waking up at 5:30am on a Sunday is a good idea... especially when not going to work! Anyone interested in going across to Appin after the Kessel run?

Sasco's picture

Usually I like the sound of rain.. I remind myself it's good for the trees.. its good for the cows.. it's good for the country.. but not tonight.. =(

Pete B's picture

Hopefully doesn't go much further south.

Checkmate's picture

Hi gentlemen, sorry to leave it till last minute:( I hoped, I get better, but it's not happening, fighting flu full time. Won't be able to make it tomorrow.

craked's picture

A 5% chance of rain in campbeltown and mostly sunny, has had 0.4mm rain since 7pm and not expecting any more tonight, have a great ride wish I could be there Smiling

Pete B's picture

Looking at the BOM radar the rain has passed and it was only a brief shower so shouldn't affect things too much.

herzog's picture

Incredible ride this morning guys.

Here's the GPS:

andyfev's picture

Great ride really enjoyed it... who was wearing a HR chest strap? My Garmin picked a signal up even though I wasn't even wearing one!

Will def ride that one again!

Anyone interested in forming a 3 man team for the Choc Foot series shoot me a personal message... not going for gold just the social. Also, CCOMTB round 19 June at Ourimbah... should be good for a quick lap or two (entering C grade as it's my virgin club race!).

Ride on fellas!

Ps. taking my rear wheel down to the LBC as nearly all the spokes have come loose!

hawkeye's picture

Really enjoyed the ride - thanks guys Smiling

Of course, *now* I see the recommendation for clear glasses! Ithink I van claim the booby prize for the most stacks, but I had strong competition from all of you, with OTBs from Sasc and beno, a few attempts to lead us astray from Andy, ripper front washout from Andrei that gave new meaning to the term 'tree hugger' and a few others who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty!

Will post My Garmin trace when I'm showered and done scrubbing the track out of my knee Eye-wink

Sasco's picture

Kiwi spirit was definitely in "the air" - 1st time in Aussie my pedals go all clogged up with the dirt! And what dirt! - where else could you get that awesome wombat shit (nope.. was not just another cow), where else you get send over the bars by another cunning wombat hole?! (no.. it was not an ordinary rat hole that swallowed my front 29er wheel)

Sasco's picture

A big thank you to Hawkeye who invited me to this ride and gave me a lift!

Pete B's picture

Great trail and great company.

Nice to meet you all and look forward to doing another group ride again soon.

Deffinately going back to that trail soon.

craked's picture

glad you all had a great ride ,wish I could have joined you. I will repost this ride again soon and we can complete stage 2 .the Kessel run is even better on the second time cause you know what to expect and can carry more speed which makes it flow better .Hawkeye did you wear sunnys ?bet you took them off after about 10 mins Eye-wink

andyfev's picture

I forgot my clear glasses and sunnies so had to buy an emergency pair at a servo as I can't stand getting stuff flung in my eyes (big history of multiple eye infections following botched laser eye surgery). It was like a night ride without lights! Awesome Smiling

EDIT: The servo only had dark tinted sunnies!

EDIT: Hence, Hawkeye, I may have taken a few wrong turns here and there!

Benno88's picture

Thanks for the ride everyone. Was great to meet you all and would definitely be keen to go on another ride sometime soon. Really liked the way that tracked flowed in sections and i think next time it will be way more fun with a bit of knowledge about the twists and turns.

Andyfev - i'd keen to team up for the SRAM 8 hour enduro down in Camberra. For now pencil me in. i will check my diary and get back to you. At this stage I don't think I have anything on that weekend.

Ben

herzog's picture

+1 to clear sunnies - an absolute must.

I have one other tip, which I learned the hard way!

About 3/4 of the way along the trail, there's a big logroll, about a metre high. On the approach side, is a "northshore" style ramp about two feet wide.

However on the far side, (which you can't see) the down ramp is a plank, only about 6 inches wide.

So of course I bombed through this obstacle sight-unseen and completely missed the downramp. Front wheel just dropped into the void. I'm still not sure how I stayed on.
