Note that this ride is Cancelled.
When:
Sunday, 10 July, 2011 - 08:00
Duration:
5 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
The Oaks
Meeting Point:

Emu Plains Station carpark (two before Glenbrook to catch an extra downhill at the end and secure a place on the train before the Oaks mob boards at Glenbrook) to catch the 08:13 train up to Wentworth Falls.

17 Railway Street, Emu Plains, New South Wales
Details:

To be rescheduling after the %%$^%#$ weather reports advised about the winds scheduled, and the tracks are probably covered with fallen trees.

The pace will be "brisk social" - This will mean a couple of stops will happen at the creeks and the helipad, though besides that I want us to be able to move along at a fairly rapid pace, so it'd be preferable to ride with people with a higher degree of fitness.

It starts with a not so pleasant part along the highway, but soon we're cruising down an unsealed road, turning into the main track (Ando's) hitting full steam down the creek (because steam will come off the breaks when we ride through the creek!), having a nice rest, looking at the beautiful valley walls on either side of us... THAT WE'RE ABOUT TO HAVE TO CLIMB UP! The challenge will be to ride the whole thing without putting a foot down.

Now for the Oaks... ups and downs until the Helipad, another rest break, and now for the great downhill... can anyone get above 60km/h?, the great singletrack, and the not-so-great uphill before raiding the pie shop.

I was hoping some locals could show me around Knapsack Reserve at the end, as I've never ridden there, though it depends on how we're feeling.

Otherwise we'll ride down (yes, another couple bonus km of downhill) Explorers Rd back to Lapstone Station, where another downward firetrail awaits us, ending at River Road. The remaining few kilometres - sort of a warm-down - will consist of a nice ride on a quiet street next to the river before returning to Emu Plains Station

See you there if you're brave!

I had planned to do this ride previously on the Queens B'day weekend, but it was too wet so I'm keen to do it this time!

Andos was cold on the weekend....with the Garmin showing around 7.5 deg C along tablelands road.
I bailed out on the Oaks and Woodford due to being Cold and a light drizzle starting up!
Would like to have another crack at the whole ride again soon!
P.S No beef vindaloo and homebrews the night before this ride! Barf!

Does anyone know how high the creek crossings might be after the rain? Thinking of going Sunday as well but maybe more casual pace

there was decent rain on saturday night up there last weekend. The water level was low enough on Sunday morning to use stepping stones to cross the first creek. Just before the second crossing on the right side there is a log bridging the creek, which I had not used before Cool

behaves this time. I doubt it will be any warmer, but if it's clear, it will make it a lot better!

I can show you Knapsack Smiling

I heard reports that the wind was a nightmare at Wentworth, so I made the right decision not to go today! Had a nice ride at GNR instead (though the bike needs a new derailleur...)
