Oaks at night??
Hi!
How about the Oaks at night my mate and I both really love riding the Oaks and he has just got some HID’s so we are keen as to give this one a bash. Below are some logistics for the ride. But if you know what to expect just skip this part and sign up! We'll figure out a time and train closer to the date. Are there any establishment’s in Glenbrook for a drink and dinner afterwards?
Potential Dates 18th August, 1st September, 15th September. I'm not sure if we can accommodate everyone but we'll it a try!
Good lights We will set off about dusk to ensure a good view. So you will need a two hour burn time or so. 5W halogens may not be enough light so I would recommend 10+W halogens or something more powerful.
Group ride This will have to be a group ride It's too easy to drop someone at night and we don't want that to happen. We WONT be doing a speed run but rather a chance to just enjoy the track at night, but then again we are not be going to hang around chatting for ages. Clear as mud?
Your bike Make sure its gonna last (did I just jinx myself by saying this?? I'd better go check my bike now...)
For the people who want an epic should we do Andersons beforehand?

oaks at night is great, done it a few times. The run from the helipad at 45km/h at night is awesome, you want some bright lights for this section.
I run a HID on the bars and soon to be led's on the helmet, so with a group you can usually light up the whole track for a good distance.
I would not recomend anderson and oaks all at night, you would need decent burn times plus the potential for failures/stacks at night could blow the time out a bit. Run andersons in daylight then aim for oaks to start at 6pm.
I am in pending my wifes work schedule (18th august looks good)
Don
where is oaks?
is it more xc or dh?
Hey George,
Good to hear from you! It's probably best if you check out the link on our rides section for a write up of the oaks http://nobmob.com/rides/theoaks. The Mountain bike Oz magazine gave it a rave review called it one of the ten best rides in Oz (a bit over the top methinks) but it is a great ride. More XC almost no DH. About 1800mm of descent overall and 250m of climbing. About 75% firetrail 25% singletrack on a 24km track. Its a 90 min drive and then a 30min train ride from the northern beaches
I could be tempted to do this before we organise the night ride (whenever that may be)... PM if you're interested.
Andrew
I'd be up for this
Have to check the boss's travel schedule first though.
I'm a possible depending on the boss.
Is there a problem getting bikes on the train in peak hour?
Have you considered starting at Glenbrook riding up to the helicopter pad then riding down again?
The Oaks at night is fun and I'd also do Andersons in daylight before hand if that's the popular choice. Or maybe we could have 2 groups, those who do both rides and the night riders only meeting at Woodford before stage 2, we could also do coffee waiting for the train from Glenbrook
Oh the 1st of sept is the day before the Netti enduro that some of us are doing (me included) so I couldn't do that day, even though riding on my birthday seems very attractive.
Cheers John
