Mid mountain tour
Woodford train station on the south side, funnily enough called Railway parade
There is a few tracks in this area that any warm blooded Mtbiker should enjoy, ranging from Woodford to Lawson there is some fun/steep fire roads including Terrace falls that most won't have ridden and a fair bit of exciting single track. The ride is mostly XC style rather than all mountain so expert bike skills are not required but up the pace a little and it's a lot of fun.
The ride time is very flexible as we won't be too far from a train station most of the time and I'll ride all day for those that wish to
See you there John
Were you there and have a story to tell?

This sounds like a great ride John, put me down as a yes & I will confirm later. Also free to ride all day!
Would it make sense to park at glenbrook, catch the train up to the meeting point & finish the day off with a run down the oaks? How many km's can we fit in to a day???
to the Blue Mts since we rode with you last time John, sounds like a plan!
Count me in!
Long time off the bike, John. Frustrating.
I'll be driving from Mona Vale with room for 2 more if anybody wants a lift.
I'll head along MV rd. to H'bush turn off. Can detour if necessary.
This ride is shaping up as awesome, I've called in an auxillary tour guide (Craig Breaden) and we are now planning the best route while drinking beer and watching 24 solo (as I type) starring my hero Craig Gordon.
Bruce, I think you'll be well sorted as far enough km are concerned riding down the Oaks won't be necessary and we'll still have to do Linden ridge rd. and dawes ridge another day.
We may also include a brief stop at the lawson pub which can surprisingly be reached off road.
Cheers John
Can be reached off road? That's my kind of place!
Looking forward to whats going to be a great day
Had a little preview to what you guys will be riding today with John. Lots of nice little singletrack riding up in the mountains. And finished it up with the Oaks.
Great fun. Damn shame I can't make this one!
Ben
Bugger, I've been off the bike for a while now recovering from a rib injury (not from biking either!). Probably need just one more weeks recovery but am very tempted by this ride proposal. Sounds brilliant! ...i've also had a new trail dually sitting at home that i'm yet to try out due to my ribs so to say i'm tempted is an understatement.
Hmm, will make a last minute decision, but i doubt it. Oh well, I hope this ride is such a success that it becomes a regular one so i can join you guys on it in the near future.
Cheers,
I had a major stack that broke 3 ribs, fractured my skull and put 6 stitches in my face, I got riding again after 2 weeks, so try a test ride.
Good luck John.
Ps There will be other opportunities to ride this if you can't make it.
There is a good old fashioned burger shop nearby, so that's an option for those that have the ravenous gene like me, and wish to ride longer. John
@John - Wow, sounds like a decent stack you had. Yeah unfortunately i tore the cartilage from the rib bones on my left side (refered to as a 'rib fracture', although there is no bone damage). This often takes longer to heal than if i had broken the rib bones themselves. I will follow your advice tho and try a leasurely street ride after work today and see how i go.
I'm really &%$@#ed off, but can't take John up on the offer of this tour. It doesn't happen often, but have to hang out in Sydney all day, something to do with having a job or something. Bl00dy inconvenient!
Take notes people, I'll be looking for a report and repeat of the route if you can remember it!
I'll do a special repeat tour for you, gee It's already a trilogy
John
John, if we can get some photos, we could put together a ride review and add it to the Rides section. What do you think?
Anyone interested in car pooling?
ridings been sparse the last couple of months due to varying factors but I'll be there with some luck.., my fitness is way down but enthusiasm riding high;)
Yes Murray. But for you, the man machine, your lower level fitness still makes the average rider look like they are on a tricycle.
Hi John,
Sorry for posting a late question but ...
The meeting point is at Woodford station. Do you recommend parking the car at Woodford station or catching the train up to Woodford
from Glenbrook?
Does the ride end at Woodford station?
Once again, sorry for the late question.
It's amazing what decisions you make with a stomach full of maccas and copious amounts of beer. See you in a few hours!
The start and finish is at the Woodford station, no trains need to be used.
See you there John
it is then.
See you there.
LOL... decisions can be made, but can the body follow them through?
Did Squidly make it? Another sunny day in the mountains for you lot... I'm so jealous!
Squidly did make the start with a red tinge in his eyes but in good spirits, and I only got to see them off as yesterday afternoon I took a trip otb doing a jump and broke my collar bone in three places. not happy John, so now another long time off work and the bike, maybe I'm more suited to crochet.
Sad John.
Mate - you have all the luck!
That's terrible news!
Suppose you have to have some surgical treatment as well?
PS - crochet still has it's fair share of injuries...
Doc said no op, I'll just end up with a ball of bone encompassing all the bits and a strange lump
clearly visible.
Organising a ride and then getting yourself hurt so you can't lead them out
Hope you heal fast this time around and are back on the stead asap
I made it to the start line then went home and sat around on this site for a while, then got driven to a jump the boys were soon to arrive at, I had a couple of stubbie painkillers there, then got driven to pub while everyone else rode to it, the painkillers they had were in large glasses but I had no trouble swallowing them, I was joined there by a large sweaty mob, with a few sporting bloody grazes (nothing serious) so they all joined in for some of this magical painkilling fluid, again I was driven as they climbed upon their faithful steads to finish the tour.
I had as good a time as possible, thanks guys and thanks to Craig for running Le Tour.
John.
I'll be back!! (I'm sick of this line already)
Thanks John for the initial organisation that went into this ride. We are all sorry that the circumstances for you missing the ride could not have been better. But no worries, you may actually learn soon! For your wife's sake!
And another thanks goes out to Craig for showing the Mob around his home trails. I liked them a lot. We will definitely have to stop by again soon to do some more. It looks like there is plenty left. I especially like anything that is technical. Having lived in the blue mountains for 12 years, it was good to do something there I had never seen before.
Did someone say trilogy?
Happy trails!
Oh yes please
Sat around all day waiting for the phone to ring, and it didn't. Typical eh? Wasn't all bad though, Only You was showing on the TV. Ahhhhhhh....
Thanks to John for organising the ride and to Craig for showing us around.
I had a blast. Sweet single track. And thanks to everyone for waiting for me.
And I had the
Most. Embarrassing. Stack. Ever.
Was slowing down just before 2 poles and thought I would walk the bike instead of going around the poles.
Stopped the bike and then realised I couldn't unclip, fall over to the left and my big chain ring decides to leave some love bites on
the underneath of my knee joint. I reckon I left some chunks of skin and flesh in the mountains. Or maybe they are still on my chain ring.
Thanks to Tien for patching me up and to Bruce for the bandage.
And because I am a crap photographer, my shots of the undressed wound are terrible so I won't upload them.
Oh, and how snooty was the takeaway joint guy?
I knew that trilogy word would get your attention Liam, we had the preview, and todays main event, now should we wait for The return of the Joni?
Thanks to John & Craig for organising & leading us through some really nice trails, there was a bit of everything, hills up & down, fire trail, single track & even a little bmx track.
Was really cool just sitting around at the pub for lunch & having a chat, the take away shop guy was tool, but as luck would have it we found a nice lady at the cafe just a couple of shops down who was more than helpful.
Wishing you a speedy recovery John & remember, just because you see Mitch doing a jump doesn't mean you should a couple of us followed him down a steep bit of trail on the way home & all we could see was dust.
See you all next time
That's now 3 trips to hospital in 3 years so hopefully that will be the end on it, I also think that I either need to give up jumping or get professional guidance before attempting any more.
I'm glad everyone had a good time and maybe we should do it again in six weeks for those who missed out myself included.
Cop u later John.
You do realise that it is faster along the ground than in the air?
That's my excuse every time I'm caught taking a B-line!
Thanks again for another great ride. Note to self for next time: less booze, more sleep the night before
guinness and pork roll
rum and hot dog
Guaranteed to brush away the lunch time cob webs
Another top day of riding in the mountains. Thanks to John for organising and Craig for being a tour guide.
Catch you all soon.
