Manly Dam easy training ride
King Street (near corner with Arana Street), Manly Vale. You know - outside Manly Hydraulics Lab.
My training schedule for the Back Yamma Big Foot has been interrupted with illness and lower back issues over the last 6 weeks, so looking to ease back into getting some kilometres in the legs.
With today's wind, and forecast sunny days through into the weekend, I'm expecting the MD trail will be fit to ride. Am planning to check on Saturday some of the Allambie areas we identified in our trail walk last weekend. If that indicates condition is still too marginal I will shift the ride to Terrey Hills Duck Holes + Centre + Perimeter + Long and will post on Saturday arvo if the location changes.
Pace will be moderate (I won't be able to sustain anything harder!) but am looking to keep the flow continuous, say at 1 hour per lap pace for 3 laps (if I last that long!)
Were you there and have a story to tell?

I'll already be there but it would be good to do a lap with a few others and see how other people tackle different sections. I'm always willing to learn better techniques.
Is all the normal loop open? Haven't been here since April 2010 so might head over for a lap or 2. I wont sign up as I can't confirm anything as yet.
As I understand it, they're opening it for the weekends. The works at 19th Hole aren't closing the circuit off as yet. He's building the diversion first before shitting down the old line.
Eeewwwwwwweee.."shitting down the old line" that will stop them eh?
the same cows down there as the track at Singleton, they can shut down a quick cheat line with 1 perfectly placed cowpat!
Count me in, haven't had a blast around the dam since can't remember when! And it's local so a sleep in too
Oops! LOL!
Well I suppose it will help the new plantings take, then eh?
I see this ride is full. I'll be there around the same time so I guess I'll see you there as well
We're now up to 8 riders... see you tomorrow.
Conditions were OK today. 19th Hole last roll-down is nasty, though, and I see what Sasc is talking about regarding that loose rock... wasn't there when we were marking the track last weekend. It's a recent addition. Take care, kiddies.
I'll be there for sure. I plan to do the first loop with you then see how I go.
I'll be over at the dam too.
Not sure if I can do 1 hr laps though - never done the dam at that 'pace'
I'll hook up for a while to say hello, see how the bunch is going then continue on for a few laps.
W.
... as you fly past Twice a lap
I probably was late few minutes - but then.. passed more than a dozen of riders - did not see you..
The dam's always a good whole-of-body workout - the back and shoulder muscles are going to be sore tomorrow!
Sorry we missed you Sasha. We were a little late moving off, probably some time shortly after 9 am, so I figured you weren't joining us.
I found that rock you were talking about at 19th Hole. It had rolled out of position. I was thinking "Hmm... wouldn't want to hit that..."
No prizes for guessing what happened next Duh!
Well.. next time I will be more patient.. being slightly late I was not sure.. glad & impressed to see you are already back on the bike!
I truly enjoy riding at Manly Dam - I only wish its nice technical bits were more uniformly distributed along the trail - it would keep the speed down for many riders too.. otherwise we will keep getting passed by occasional _cool_ speeding rider in the last couple of kms of the loop.. I almost fell off my bike when I heard sudden "ON YOUR LEFT!!!" =))) it would have been very funny watching them if it were not so sad.. =D
Good ride today. Unbelievable the amount of water still on the course. I think I'll wait for it to dry out before heading back.
