Fuji bikes – opinions (& other brands I want)
Hi guys,
Just wanted your opinions on the quality of the Fuji bikes, MTB only:
In my personal opinion, I felt they were like a general sport store brand, so no the best; but when looking at what they produce, seems better than I thought. I never had the opportunity to try one, so that's why I looking on your comments and how you feel in general about this brand.
I want to change MTB next year, and I felt want to buy (in order of preference) a Specialized, Cannondale, Kona or GT. Beside the Kona, these three are all quite expensive bikes, but no doubts good quality. I have at the moment a Kona from 10 years ago, and still I feel it's a good bike… but old and I think too small. I'm against having another Kona, but it seems Specialized is very active and it tells me that their bikes are higher quality.
> I will use the bike off-road, trail mainly and sometimes a bit of downhill; no competition needs (unless I get in shape and stop eating Tim-Tams), but still a good performing bike with parts that aren't cheap and perform or break quickly. Not sure still if I should My budget is mmm… not more than $2k.

On bike exchange you can get a Giant Trance X2 for about 2k and a X3 for about 1600
Look in new Aussie Mountain Bike mag. has good review of 5 or 6 mtb under $2K. Fuji in it, but I think Trek won the day. I bought Felt 29er with XT last year for under 2. very happy. prepare for more $$ if going for dual sus tho. Good luck mate
Never had Fuji so can't comment there
Got a BMC and love it
Had a trek and never going back. Unless its a top end trek they give you absolute rubbish for all the little bits like wheels, post and bars. The wheels especially never felt nice and were always a pain in the arse plus they weighed a ton.
I'm cautious with specialized. Their bikes look awesome and they are leading the way in innovative technology but it also means if anything breaks on their bikes you have to go to them to get it fixed and not a generic brand which is cheaper. If your getting a specialized without the with generic wheels etc. it would be good. That said IMO their customer service at Northside cyclery in chatswood is best on the north shore by a long way and always a pleasure to deal with.
Second hand for under $2k, you can pick up some really good deals. For under 2k new you might have to stick to a hard tail
Hi
Alot of people talk up the value of Giant bikes. I still feel you get a better value , better spec bike with a Kona or Norco. Built tough to.
I love Canadian bikes had a Norco Fluid 1, 5" trail bike long before Giant even knew what a 5" trail bike was. Gaint are better value alot of the time because they copy all the other bike manufacturer designs. Can't remember seeing Giant come up with a new idea. Where as the Americian and Canadian bike manufacturers (especially the smaller ones) have to come up with new designs to stay compeditive in the large bike market. This is where tapered head tubes, variable and slacker geometry trail bikes, hydroformed frames etc come from. Once they are proven, the larger manufacturers copy.
Well informed post Floydo!
It is just a modified virtual pivot sytem. Nothing new. Not like Kona's magic link, DW link or Yeti's new BB66 system.
Next you will be telling me they invented full suspension bikes.
Fuji bikes are great! Their carbon hard tails are really stiff where they need to be. Good spec for the dollar too. For that price range, also check out Jamis bikes.
You cant really go wrong with giant because they tried and tested.
Hi
I was in newsagent yesterday flicking through the new mountain bike riding mag and they had a review on the mtb bikes under $2k and Fuji was one of them (rated 3rd on their list) but was the cheapest too.
Sorry didn't buy mag as it was just full of hard tail and dual susp reviews and ratings.
Thanks all for your comments. I will buy this mag tomorrow and have a read.
I've been never a big fan of Giant or Trek… don't ask me why, just feel they are supermarket bikes.
They are the biggest manufaturers but are no way supermarket bikes other wise nobody will buy them . I think you should get your butt on a few & test ride some ,we are all waiting for a outcome of what you end up purchasing .
