Hi, I am considering and upgrage from an Anthem X3 and after some advice on this.

Looking at a 2nd hand Anthem XO 2009 http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bikes/mount....

In good condition with very little off road use, if any. Upgraded to FOX RL100 w/ REMOTE LOCK-OUT and XTR Crankset

or

A NEW Giant Anthem X1 2011 = 12 months free servicing (Time saver!!)

Thinking the 2011 Anthem X1 - being brand new with the new frame design

Any thoughts?? - Both are same price

Currently riding, Terrey Hills, Manly Dam, Cascades, Blue Mountains and Stromlo.

I ride 3 times a week.

Love this sport!!

Would be a better all round bike , lighter ,stiffer and all the parts are new .
There are some red hot deals on it at the moment too because the 2012 models come out soon

There are some seriously good deals availible on the Anthem X 29er if you look arround - I have heard of $2400 being quoted by a bike store in the north west (I can't remember which one - and didn't want to know after spending $2800 on one myself).

I am absolutely blown away by the Anthem X, the componantry is superb if you excuse the awful Fizik saddle and for the money I don't think you can buy a better trail bike for the Sydney envirnment at the moment. The only down side is as they are so well priced they are selling extremely well and on almost every ride you are garanteed to meet someone else on one.

I believe an issue for some brands is the frame warranty is not transferable on 2nd hand bikes to a new owner, you want to check that out on the Giant website, just to make sure, I could be wrong.

In anycase newer is better IMO, even if its slightly lower spec'd.

Just picked up a new Anthem Advanced SL1 for $3999: shop around.

Thanks for the advice on the bike choice

1. WIll go new to preserve the warranty and the 'new' bike smell
2. Tough decision between the X1 and the 29er - A test ride will sort that. Maybe $$$

Thanks again!! See you on the trails

Have had an x 29'r for 8 months now, and still have my 26" trance as well, have found the x29'r a brilliant bike, and only use the trance now for specific tracks that suit it.
I can certaily recomend one

Anyone in Newcastle, know if you can try out 29ers for the day out in real conditions?
I know Canberra and Sydney have try out bikes or try out days, but wonder if we are not big enough economy in Newcastle.

....to your local Giant dealer.

I personally recommend the Anthem X0 because it got the X0 and Crossmax SL,

those would be quite different from the Shimano XT.

The Anthem ADV is pretty good as I had one last year,

its ligher, but honestly I cant feel too much differences on performances compraed to the aluminium.

anthems are great. for the money you cant ask for more! though with the lower anthems its not just the weight . the lower end suspension can make them feel average so if you are getting something a little lower spec'd get the rear shock changed to something with propedal/lockout if it doesnt already. I had a '10 x1 ith full xt and went so well. now I laid out another 6k for a '11 blur with xtr. its not to flash for the value for money side of things

There was a Giant Anthem for sale not long ago and was a great bargain with all the fruit and was being reluctantly sold due to someone not being able to ride. It was a bargain (wished I had had the money for it)

Maybe put in a wanted seems like these guys look after their bikes and upgrade them regularly.
