National XC Round at Awaba

Its been shared that Awaba and HMBA will be hosting the final round of the National XC and DH series. The weekend is 3/4th of March.

Its a long way off, but I would encourage everyone to get it in their calendar. Its great to have a round so close to Sydney, and so accesible. Its a chance for everyone to see (and cheer on) the best local athletes as they go against the best in Australia. Home track advantage is hugely important on such a tight track. There will be a bunch of NobMobbers racing and maybe one or two winning.

well done to all at HMBA for putting their hand up and taking on the running of a race of this scale. It would great to get everyone along to watch, supprt and even participate. If we can make it the best attended event on the calendar it will really say something. Get the cow bells out, the horns, make it a great event.

This is really great news for MTB events in the Sydney area.

So what is this event? Can anyone enter? Is there qualifying etc

Antsonline's picture

Anyone can enter, the catagories have names rather than letters (Elite, Expert, Vets, Master vs A, B, C, D etc).
Just pick the one that suits you and give it a go.

The National Series has struggled for numbers in the recent past (MTBA havent been the best at advertising that its on, and also people are scared away by the really elite end). The reality is that everyone is super friendly, and just wants a race.
There are going to be 4 rounds, I think the first will be in Hobart in early December.

The entries wont be open yet, but I would whole-heartedly recommend it. Also - watching the Elite end will be good this year as its all about Olympic qualifiaction and proving who is the strongest for selection.
Putting your laptimes against the front of the Elite will blow your mind.

I'll post the full series details up when they are released.

Ive stressed before on here that not enough peeps compete in XC events, either at club or National level.
More people should have a go. Apart from the initial nerves it's a real blast and generally over in 60-90 mins. it gets you fitter for the Enduro's and brings your skills right up.
As Ants says, you can enter in one of the lower or older classes so you dont have to worry about being on the start line next to the likes of Him!

I'll be there as well.

Will be good to see how we go, I have enjoyed the CCOMTB XC Series this year, and looking forward to the 6 Hour Enduro in a few weeks.

What 6 hour is that?

at Ourimbah on 7th August, same weekend as the rescheduled Husky.

Hey Ants - do you know any other dates/venues... (big smile...)

Lots of work to be done before the event, but it will be great to have Xc and DH on the same weekend. The site inspection with MTBA highlighted a few issues and we have another inspection to come.

Would be great to see a heap of you there as competitors, spectators or even volunteers.

I'll keep the forum updated as the club progresses.
