Hey guys,

today i picked up my new ride

2012 Giant Trance X1

I bought it through the team at inner city cycles. They really looked after me and did an amazing price compared to the other quotes i got.

Tomorrow I am putting on XT cleats and going to start riding clipped in

The bike was brand new and beautiful and i couldnt help myself so rode from Manly Beachfront to the top of the Dam and hit it hard. Got to the bottom covered in mud haha.

Not so new anymore

Its an amazing bike. It is about the 10th bike i have owned and one of the best. Years ago i used to race downhill and owned an Intense M1, Orange 222, Giant DH1 and many more bikes.

Giant has come such a long way over the past few years.

The pro pedal on the fox shock is amazing as well. Really happy with the bike.

I did a nice little lap today. Starting at North Steyne Manly, then hillclimb up all on the road till the oval then went dirt from there on. Ended up being just over 20km. Took about 1 hour 15m

Pumped to get into some regular riding with you guys.

Giant do make a nice bike. Enjoy the cleats.Tthey will improve your riding. I know I now feel insecure without them,

But it wasn't always that way.... the main trouble is when you come to an unexpected stop, you may find you hit Manly Dam a bit more often that you really want ... at least, at the start. Eye-wink Just kidding Evil

You will have the inevitable clipstack, I don't know anyone who hasn't, but it's no big deal if handled properly. Just make sure don't stick your hand out hard with your elbow locked out if you do go over (it won't end well), the main thing is to learn to roll with it and you'll be fine with the only thing bruised being your ego. Maybe try practicing on a soft lawn for a bit first until you get the hang stopping and (if you clipstack) turning the sideways fall into a hand-elbow-hip-shoulder-bump roll.

Suggest you set the pedals to the loosest tension to start with to make sudden clipping out easier. When I stall going uphill through a rider in front stopping unexpectedly, or a mistake on my part, I find grabbing a bit of brake to lock up the transmission and stabilise the bike gives me some more time to get the feet out and away from the bike and the shins away from the pedals before the bike goes over.

Hope this is helpful Smiling

Hey mate, This is a great help. Thanks heaps.

I did 20km on the road today and had no worries. Definately notice a difference up the hills.

Will ride the dam this week and just take it slow. Thanks again for all the help

fun fun
