Jesmond Advocacy Thread
I thought Jesmond needed its own thread to discuss where its headed.
I've been talking with Council on and off for a few years now about legitimising the trails in the reserve. The Council has always been aware of them and unofficially let them be (other than some jumps below rankin park).
More recently though, Council has become interested in the potential for Jesmond to host mtb events. This obviously has put some focus on formalising and recognising the trails in the park officially.
We got out and mapped the trails (most of them) last week, but if you have a more complete map, please post it. Link to the mapping thread is http://glenrocktrailalliance.com/node/30665
As discussions progress I'll post details here. I've requested the ability for maintenance to occur in the park and as I understand that is now being looked at. I'm not sure at this point how feasible an event is in Jesmond though without tweaking to the trails and linkages being added it, but to be honest I am more interested in having the trails officially recognised.

The trail near the "lonely sign" south of the JH is a nice peice of single track. Although the last time I rode it (earlier this year), the bush had started to reclaim parts it. It's a bit creepy riding through there at night!
The walking trail in the northern part of the park I've always referred to as the "Rainforest track", I've also heard the name "Rainbow trail/track". It's popular with the walking/jogging crew, I can't say I've seen huge groups of people use it though. I always thought this track was a perfect addition to that "downhill" trail you rode up. There's a short trail that sort of links the two. Riding from the top of the DH trail to the end of the Rainforest track is one the best rides in the park.
The fire trail which runs from the top of Russell Road heading west, I think was known as the "Skyline"...
