windtrainer needed
Hello!
I need to buy a wind trainer and was wondering if anybody can give me a recommendation for a decent one that doesn't cost a fortune? Or maybe somebody has one and wants to sell it?
Any advice would be great!
Cheers,
Caro

from my experience i had one (wind) that was soooo noisy i had to through it out, i hear the magnetic ones are pretty good, and theres some ultra fancy other ones too but $$$ also prob gonna want resistance control too otherwise its a bit of an average experience...you do mean a stick you bike on it for excercise bike conversion wind trainer dont you? lol
of "ride your bike in the living room" trainer is what I need.
Not sure about the right spelling or term for it.
You can borrow mine if you like, to see if you like it before spending any money.
Any other kinds of wind training I am sure you can learn on Saturday night in Canberra
Caro, if you can afford the bit extra get a rim drive rather than tyre drive.
Rim drives are a lot quieter so you can keep sane by watch MTB vids or listening to music with out having to turn the ipod up so much it bursts your ear drums. Plus don't wear your tyres out,
Bruce gave us a good demo of his "rim wind trainer" half way down the Oaks. He blamed Steve's roast pork the night before though.
Oh come on you all knew there was no way I could leave that post alone.
You're thinking of a good curry
A bit pricey but worth it... I have a CycleOps Fluid 2 and no complaints whatsoever...
As Flynny said, rim trainers are tops for keeping your tyres in shape
Thanks guys!
Will have a look into the rim trainer option. Have never seen one or heard of it but quiet sounds good, am not good with noise!
(will bring an extra pair of earplugs for Saturday night !!)
yeh thats what i meant a fluid trainer one lol $$ but meant to be the shizzle yeh dont underestimate the noise thing, my old tyre/fan one was so noisy it was un-useable
Can the rim drive trainer be used when your rim doesn't have the face required for V-brakes. Also, if they can be used on any type of rim, do they take all the paint off etc.
With all this rain I need something as I can an exercise bike from years ago but it doesn't replicate the riding position and is crappy as...
Last question, if I have to go with a tyre drive, do you need to change the rear tyre to slicks because having UST with stans would be a pain.
I'd imagine you'll be right with non-v rims if the wheels that grab are nice and smooth.
And you will need slicks, you've heard how much noise nobbies make on one of these things, right? Think back to 6am morning of the Dirtworks
I actually thought about buying the cheapest POS I could on ebay and setting up a wind trainer in the study full time. Silly idea, pick up a frame and rear wheel someone has thrown out and build a stand to lock the fork into!
Yes Brian, but I guess it depends on the rim, I can still use my trainer on the DT rims that came on the Stumpy.
For a rim drive trainer the tyres are not in contact.
