I have just read this piece of un-informed bigoted trash in the paper. I was extremely tempted to write back pointing out in diplomatic terms how idiotic this argument is; as one of the key reasons I ride is to be at one with nature - but feel it will probably just add fuel to the fire of someone with an axe to grind.
The colong foundation are an extreme group whose members spout all sorts of rubbish. Some would argue that they have been instrumental in conserving wilderness in NSW and pockets of bush around Sydney...
Their views are beginning to change regarding mtb and they (or some of their members views anyway) are at least willing to talk.
... to the Manly Daily, tongue-in-cheek apologising for failing to meet the Gold standard, and to point out how the Colong Foundation complained about not feeling heard by a facilitator with links to mtb (as well as walking and bush care groups) yet did not bother to turn up to the subsequent round of consultations NPWS organised specifically to address their complaint.
I then pointed out that mtbers love the natural environment, and keeping people from sharing that will not help preserve it.
In 1955 when Henry Gold arrived from Austria where was his concern for preservation of the same bushland that was bulldozed to create the suburb of Killarney Heights? Must be nice to live on the edge of wilderness.
