I find chest mount is so much easier to watch than helmet cam footage.

Nice work.

Agree about the chest mount. Seems the "blob of jelly" effect from shocks to the camera is pretty minimal.

Is that the new Hero? What resolution were you recording at?

That's pretty impressive footage.

It this processed in any way or straight out of the camera? Why I ask is that this has pretty nice colours and lots of this kind of stuff seems to be pretty washed out.

How come this isn't HD on YouTube?

Yeah this is from the new GoPro model (HD2) chest mounted. I got it for a ski trip coming up in a couple of months, but thought the chest mount would also be good for footage on the bike based on other youtube footage I've seen.

The resolution is 1280x960 30fps @ 170 wide angle. These are the out of the box default settings, as it's the first time I've used it.

Video is straight off the camera unprocessed.

I'll try to repost to youtube at a higher res. Also have a couple more clips from yesterday.

That looks really good, both the track and the video from the camera. Loop from valley up Meryla then down McPhails sounds good to.

After "losing" my Olympus Tough on the weekend, this is top of the list for replacing it.

I have a pretty good idea of what the video part is capable of but what are the still pics like?

EDIT:
Also, what is the software like? I see a few vids with bits sped up or slowed down.

Just one more (promise) where did you get it from, do they post from the US?

Saturday was literally the first time I used it, so I haven't had a chance at taking stills yet, but apparently it can take upto 11 megapixel.

It also has a burst mode which takes 10 still shots in 1 second, which could be useful taking stills of someone hitting a jump etc.

Software, only had a quick look, but seems ok, but you don't actually need it. I just uploaded the video to youtube straight off the memory card. You can actually download it off their website (GoPro Cineform) if you want to have a look.

Got the camera locally off TBSM. They had the camera and accessories in stock at a price which was pretty competitive with overseas, and they do free shipping.

Done a bit more research and it looks pretty good. Shame it doesn't have a zoom on it......... but then I think I can live with that.

Yeah, as you say it looks like it's comparable with overseas which is nice for a change.

thanks.

One more thing: for MTB use with the chest mount, you need to mount the GoPro upside down.

This will make sense once you look at it closely, but basically if mounted upright, you can't point the lens high enough when you are in the bike riding position. so instead of looking ahead at the trail, it will be looking down at the ground.

So you flip the camera upside down, and select a setting in the menu for this (which flips the footage automatically).

You would use the right way up mode for sports like skiing, because of the different stance the angles will work.

Thanks for that. Mine's arrived today, just need to get a class 10 SD card for it.

Then I have to wait until Christmas... Sticking out tongue
