carbon frame build
NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
ok so got a $400 carbon frame from CD and put the thing together .first ride today and i must say very impressed with the way it rides and how strong it feels.
seems very stable thru corners and climbs very easily well it does compared to my monteri3 avanti that the frame replaced.
just awaiting new handlebars and seatpost to complete the build.

Front derailleur I'm assuming is on the way too... or are you working on improving your cadence?
I'm curious about how you'd go with getting spare derailleur hangers for those frames, having done a couple myself over the last 2 years.
not sure if ill put a front derailleur on .going to try having fixed gear at front.just may go up to a 34 or 36 chainring.have found a equivalent hanger on crc so have ordered one to see if its the same.CD said they do have a box of them if needed.not riding that hard thou so should be fine. havnt broken 1 yet so crossfingers
Who is CD?
I'm looking at building a commuter. where did you get this?
i got it from cycling deal.its the $400 unit with tapered headset and 34.9 seatpost required. FSA make a headset that fits and the seatpost is scott genius sizing so adapters are available.
I run a 36 front with 11-34 cluster and it's fine for 99% of riding. I find at the end of a long event/epic you are looking for lower gearing and sometimes have to push but the rest of the time it's fine
it would appear that model is no longer available from CD but there are a number of frames in that price range availble from the likes of LTK Bikes and Hong Fu etc etc, some even go as far as full internal cable AND hose routing. There's a 30 odd page thread on MTBR about them with all of the info you could possible ask for.
But $400 from a local supplier is a thumbs up from me, I like the cable routing detail around the steerer tube on the $499 version they currently have
As an alternative, at the moment you could probably get an On-One Carbon shipped for less than that. I know where I'd be putting my money!

i looked at the on one frame and came to the conslusion that its pretty much the same design.also the cycling deal one is glossed so it looks really coool.
and most importantly like to support australian shops .
they still have these frames available in 21" 19" and 17".
mine is the 17"
the model up does look cool with the cable channels but i have short legs and the geometry wouldnt have sorted me.and i prefer a raked frame look.
When I spoke to CD re a frame recently they knew next to nothing about what they were selling. I'd say that they're just an onseller for Chinese stuff rather than a proper (Australian) bike shop.
Still, there is a sense of achievement building up your own bike from bits & lets face it next to nothing cheap & mass produced for bikes is manufactured anywhere but east these days let alone AU.
i do agree with your statement .my point was buy from a buisness located in australia.at least it sorta helps our economy.it would be nice to have a frame like these built by an australian but with the cost to set up a factory here not likly to happen soon.
they dont seem that knowlegable i must admit but then quiet a few bike shops around perth arnt that gr8 either.are a few that seem to know most things but you still get blank faces from time to time.
i did some digging on the web and found a papertrail for the frame factory that mine came from.it appears they make most of the frames for companys like giant, scott, trek and avanti.
for $400 bucks i will see how it travels
I am very interested in building a carbon hardtail, (as a project keep myself off the streets thing).
How much does your set up weigh?
The idea of having a lighter bike sounds great to a poor hill climber like myself.
thanks
comes in just under 12kg in current buildup.aiming for under 11 when finished.
current wheels weigh just over 2 and brakes weigh 960 g f/r so hoping to get a set of lighter rims in near future which should drop around 500g so sub 11 is achievable .
just under 12kg it climbs very easy.
not bad bike for a 1200 so far build.
im happy with it because its different.could have used the money for a factory bike but now i have a bike thats all mine
Just took some Avid elixir cr carbons in white of a bike.
Interested?
