Appin XC track maintenance
When:
Saturday, 21 January, 2012 - 08:00
Duration:
4 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
I'll be there, no matter what the weather.
Ride Database Entry:
Appin Meeting Point:
North end of Burke St, Appin. There's a small parking area here at the trail head.
Note that the map shows Market Street connecting Appin Rd to this location but that is actually a firetrail and will not work for drivers who should take King St (next block South) and enter from there.

Details:
Bring your own tools if possible. I'll try to ge some from WMBC as well. We'll probably start just by walking around the track and tidying up the drainage. Don't forget sunscreen and plenty of water.

After walking the track this morning and taking some photos, there is more info here...

can't make this weekend but a huge thank you to initiating the maintenance day for my favourite riding spot.
I checked out the photos on trailflix and there sure is alot of water on the trails. Hopefully the sun from yesterday and today dries it up in time for Saturday
The photos don't really do the amount of water justice. On Sunday the first bit of singletrack from the carpark was flowing like the creek crossing!
It started raining on us going up the first climb, enough so that it was again flowing down the trails. Then it stopped until Kings Falls Bridge. It started again climbing out of KFB and by the time we had walked to the half yellow car the whole singletrack from that point on had ankle deep water flowing down it! Lucky its a hard surface.
Alright guys and girls, can you please PM me if you are attending this Saturday, the 21st of January, for an 8am start.
The plan will be to walk as much of the track as time permits (finishing at 12pm, but I might continue on depending on how far around we get); use McLeods to clean up the current drains, maybe scrape in a few new ones and trim back some overgrowth off the track.
Bring a hat, sunscreen, gloves and water (I usually just wear my camelbak). Feel free to bring your favourite trail building tool as well.
I'm working on a way I can bring my bike as well to go for a ride afterwards, but even if I can't, it would be good for others to ride their handywork.
I ride Appin a bit so I'm happy to give something back.
What tools do you need me to bring? I'm a builder so if your short of anything, I'm pretty sure I'll have it.
Thanks Pete. I look forward to seeing you there.
For this Saturday we should only need some firerakes and a pair of garden shears or two.
