Confused on Shimano Parts
Hi,
I'm looking at putting a 10 speed Shimano XT groupset on a Pivot Mach 5 I'm building up. From what I gather off the Shimano website there are 2 XT groupsets.
1. XT Deore with a product id of M770 which is 9 speed
2. XT Dyna-Sys with product id of M780 which is 10 speed.

I came across a website called probikeshop that is selling full groupsets at a great price but I'm a little confused. The groupset is using the product id's M770 but they say they are 10 speed. The pictures have the dyna-sys sticker on them. I contacted the shop and was told "The information I have from the tech guys is that this is the M770-10
group from 2011" Cant find anything on shimano's website indicating this.

Can anybody clarify this for me. Also before I get a lecture I have bought the XT brakes and rotors from my LBS but the groupsets are just working out to expensive.

The XT 770 series has both 9 and 10 speed. The 770 10 speed is also called Dyna-Sys.
9 speed 770 and 10 speed 770 are not interchangeable.
Cheers for that, my 2nd query is will the e-type dérailleur of the M780 range (10 speed) work with the M770 groupset (10 speed).
I plan on getting this separate as they only offer down or top swing in the packages. My friend is going to take the down swing der off me
I can't say with 110% certainty, however both being 10 speed, I can't see why it wouldn't. The mech and chainrings shouldn't be a problem, so long as you get one that is 3 speed compatible and the shifter is also 3 speed compatible.
770=2011 & 780=2012
Cheers for the info lads.
I'm goning ahead with the M770-10 groupset. Checking the shimano docs I should be fine with the M780 f der but probikeshop are also selling the M770 e type f der so just keeping things simple I'll go for that.
And damo is spot on
The 'ProBikeShop' website says that non-EU customers should reduce 19.6% off the listed price. (VAT)
Did anyone have a nice surprise on the bank statement from ordering from them? Those prices minus 19.6% is awesome.
if you have changed your location and currency to Australia on their website then the prices you are seeing already have VAT deducted.
Cheers.
