Old Great North Road

OGNR is point to point so you either need to arrange a pick up at Wisemans or turn it into a loop.
#1 start at Bucketty and ride the entire section of the OGNR, down Shepherds Gully and then back to Bucketty via St Albans. The stretch from St Albans to Bucketty seems much longer and hotter than its 35km suggests.
#2 Start at St Albans and ride the Dirt Works course with a detour through Wisemans to get across the river.
Both approx 100km.
...using Big Yango Homestead as a base.
Haven't ridden here, but have 4wd camped here. Use to beable to cross the park to the putty road and come back settlers road to Paynes crossing, irresponsible 4wders have now forced closure of this road as it passed through private land. Big Yango Homestead is a nice spot.
Try these
Mount Yengo Loop Trail - 22km (loop)
4WD and trail bike touring (medium difficulty, 1 hour 30 minutes)
A 4WD loop trail that circles Mount Yengo and offers spectacular views over the Yengo Wilderness Area.
The trail is approximately 22km and is accessible by vehicles with high clearance only. Vehicles must travel in an anti-clockwise direction as parts of the road are single lane only. It is preferrable for two vehicles to travel together for safety reasons.
Note: two-way traffic is permissible between Blue Gums camping area and the start of the Yango Walking Track which leads to the lookout.
General information
Mountain biking (hard, 2 hours )
This trail is suitable for mountain bikes and includes a steep incline towards Mount Yengo, then undulating terrain from there. It is recommended that people ride in an anti-clockwise direction and be aware of other vehicles.
General information
Plant communities: dry eucalypt forests, wet eucalypt forests, rainforests
Howes Trail - 30km each way (one-way route)
4WD and trail bike touring (easy, 2 hours 30 minutes each way)
4WD touring along Howes Trail to Yango Track enables you to traverse the northern section of the park from Putty Road through to George Downs Drive via Yango and Finchley Tracks.
Enjoy panoramic views of the park from ridgetop tracks.
Directions: Join Howes Trail from the Putty Road approximately 25 km south of Bulga. You can also access the track from the eastern side of the reserve off Finchley Track near the township of Laguna.
Plant communities: dry eucalypt forests
In the immediate vicinity there is a loop you can do around Mt Yengo that is quite reasonable with good views while skirting the summit area or the ridges close by.
The loop is bit over 20Ks with the homestead on the route. It is a mix of farm track in the cleared sections of the valley and firetrail beyond. I think there are one or two turnoffs from the firetrail where you could venture further or alternatively explore the many farm tracks in the valley.
Otherwise the roads ( 4wd tracks ) outside the homestead area are also an option but with the added benefit of 4wd traffic or motor bikes.
Access from the corner of Milbordale Road and Putty Road. I rode about 10-12 K's 12. It's a fire trail with a big climb in.
There's a couple of turn offs but ends up rejoining Putty road after about 20 - 25k's.
I'm trying to figure out how to load up a Google Map into a ride on NoBMob as I just added the Old Bulga Road ride today
