Hi All,

I know this probably belongs in the classified section, but its technically not for sale, yet. Just wondering what i should put as an asking price for the following:

2009 GT Avalanche 2.0
1800klm (off road mainly)
Deore Running gear
Rock Shox Sector Coil U-Turn front shock 100 - 140mm adjustable
WTB Wolverine 2.2 Foldable tyres - 3/4 tread left
Tektro Hydraulic brakes

Feels like its new to ride, meticulously looked after. Not sure what a "good" price is to put on her. Spent close to $1000 on her over the past years in various parts & upgrades. Cost was $999 new.

Not familiar with this model but generally I think mtb's lose 1/4 of there cost every year , it's alot I know but with constant frame & componant improvements & a strong aussie dollar u get alot 4 your buck buying new or previous year new .

Yeah, not much. I would say $100. You would be selling this bike to a novice rider anyway, so who knows? Maybe you could scam a bit more due to their noobness. But would you be comfortable doing that? I wouldn't.

To me, having a 140mm coil sprung fork on thee front end of a bike designed for 100mm travel forks instantly reduces the price I would be willing to pay for it. No matter what you told me this alone tells me it's been ridden pretty hard. I would probably put the original fork back on, if it's ok, and throw it on ebay for $1 starting bid. You will be surprised what people will pay for name brand low spec bikes on there if you offer postage. Do the same with the sektor fork. You may get a couple hundred each this way, as is you will probably only get $2-300 for the bike.
To put it into perspective I have a Salsa Moto rapido, scandium/carbon frame, full XT, Mavic UST wheels, Fox forks and easton bars, stem and post that I think I would be lucky to get $5-600 for.

As hard as it is to acknowledge but these bikes just don't retain value and money we spend on parts (consumables) doesn't increase their value. I paid $4,000 for my bike 2 years ago and have probably spent around $1,500 - $2,000 on spares and upgrades etc but I reckon it would only be worth around $1,500 and even then it would be hard to sell.

I reckon its best to hold on to them and use them for other purposes (road ride, work commutes etc).

Thanks for the replies guys,

It confirmed my suspicions, considering you can get a brand new GIANT with low end running gear for $600. Yes jaseh, she did get ridden hard, hence the reason I upgraded to a trance. Not big drops or anything, just fast and aggressive. However, it has held up exceptionally well, considering I am 115kg rider. Might just convert it to a road going bike for when the trails are wet and training. It's still too good a bike to just sell for pitence.

Thanks for the opinions.
