Hi all, unfortunately tonight something really bad happened to a fellow Mountain Bike rider out on the Perimeter trail. To whomever it was, a whole bunch of us know you're hurt real real bad and we wish you the best recovery possible. If anyone knows the gent, please pass on this message on behalf of the MTB community.
All the best mate - whoever you are.

Yes, very best wishes and hope all is ok ( a helicopter and multiple ambulance crews was not a good sight).

Any updates?

I have in the past wondered how it is possible for a competent rider to get it so badly wrong on a cruisy fire trail....

... but after having to drop the bike a couple of weekends ago to avoid running over a mate who took the wrong line through a washout on Duck Holes and was going OTB right in front of me, I can see how easily it's done. (Good news: he managed to save it somehow despite the rear being way in the air, and my skin has just about all grown back Sticking out tongue )

Something similar happened to dibbler a couple of years ago on Towler's Track when he got crossed up off a waterbar crashed heavily and broke his pelvis. No chopper, but 4 ambulance crews because of the steepness of the track. He's apparently all OK now.

Hope this guy is OK. Sad

This was not your average otb!
Unfortunately, the patient suffered multiple seizures. Hence the attention he was given. Thank god for our Ambo's......
I'm sure he will be having an extended stay in hospital.
May he make a full recovery.

I think we all wonder the same thing,
Sh1t can just happen - and it happens to everyone. Sometimes its your fault - sometimes not. OTB's are pretty unpredictable in how they play out (what speed, what terrain, what caused the off, how you land etc) Many of us have broken bones on impact Smiling but some have felt completely harmless. If it all goes well you get to live and learn. I certainly know ive had my share of incidents - even on this trail.
Sinkes might be able to comment further if he wishes, but as he stated this wasnt ordinary, even the ambos had a visible (and audible) sense of urgency.

a few years ago a mate and I went to Beechworth to ride their MTB park. Whilst there we were told of a dad who had taken his kids over there for a spin. Jumped out of the car and onto his bike for a bit of a spin around the dirt carpark while the young 'uns where getting ready. Didn't have his helmet on, lost his grip turning on loose dirt, fell, hit his head and was killed.

It does, and can happen anywhere at anytime.

I wish i had better news. Not much to add.
we should all say a little pray!
Hoping all ends well for a fellow rider.

Black flash et al, slow response but rode with nobmober today and reminded me. We took a novice mtber out for the gentle perimeter run post work spin. We didn't know he had a brain tumor waiting to wake up. Very scary and thanks to the crews that came thru with offers to help. Nearly lost him a couple of times thru 4 seizures. Ambos were awesome, RNS awesome. .. Now Matt is back at work, in chemo.! Doing well but keeps knocking back offers to hit the dirt??? Really hit home the great community we dwell in!

I for one know just how amazing the support of our MTB community can be. If Matt ever wanted to give it a go again - id be more than happy to play tour barbie for him. Wish him well from all of us.
Cheers

Sobering isn't it...

One minute you're the happy cyclist cruising along with bugs in your teeth, and the next minute you're the bug.

Here's hoping for a swift recovery.
