Victorian High Country
Just back from a few days in Victoria. Some riding details:
Bright - the local bike shop (Cyclepath) has a white board out front with regular rides led by locals listed almost every day. Joined Geoff and Caro for an 18km dash around the course they recently used for a 12 hr race on Wed morning. Lots of great sniggle - pine forest and riverside areas and some good things happening with the local forests people to make it more official. Very friendly locals and there are other trails to explore there. Also did a 36 km spin on the rail trail to Eurobin station and back. Good way to get the legs working after a couple of longish spells in the car.
Mt Buller - rode Cornhill, Silk Lane and Stonefly tracks. Well made tracks in a great location, but bring your climbing legs with you. Preferably try to get some training in tackling tight uphill switchbacks with a few rocks and roots while oxygen depleted. Next time I'll be doing some of the village tracks mixed with the Delatite River and Klingsporn downhill tracks and taking advantage of the shuttle back up from Mirimbah. Camped at Sheepyard Flats on the Howqua River and rode to a couple of the local huts, but plenty more scope for exploratory riding around there. And if you like narrow, waterbar-infested fire trail, get someone to drop you at the top of the ridge on Doughty's Track and head back down to Sheepyard Flats...

sounds like some great riding Lach. Planning on doing buller and Bright ect in late march, can't wait!
You've probably got the legs to enjoy Buller a bit more than I did. If you can afford to stay at Buller, a bit of altitude acclimatisation might help as the tracks all start at about 1400m and the Cornhill and Stonefly tracks both get to about 1600m. I did a similar distance ride at Bright to the one I did at Buller, in half the time and enjoyed it twice as much. But I suck at hills....
