Pietermaritzburg World Cup XC Course - Video
What a sweet course!
However, it does go to show a few things...
1/. Mnt Annan is basically the perfect place to train for a World Cup (other than a few steeper / techo bits)
2/. A 29er is the only bike to ride and rear suspension is not required
3/. Tread on tyres is irrelevant as its all super super groomed.
I'm sure there will be some response that its not hard enough, and maybe boring - but it has claimed skin so far from the best of Australia in test riding.
How good does it look!!!!??

Looks nice. The background music makes it feel like a walk in the park! Yes a 29'er hardtail looks ideal for that track as it's nice & flowing. The lack of elevation could see some new names on the leaderboard.
1. You could have warned us about the music!
2. Mt Annan is a great track. it does need a few pinch climbs and maybe a longer grind. The terrain is there to add it and hopefully they may do this in future additions. If you don't park at the trail head there are some ugly climbs to get back.
3. Nice track.
4. A 29er definitely works.
5. I disagree re tyres and suspension. There are enough tight corners with a loose surface to make tread very relevant and one lap on the hardtail would be fine but there's enough bumpy stuff on that track for fatigue to become an issue over multiple laps. 2 or 3 inches of rear travel would make for a smoother ride.
Looking forward to the race.
bloody hell. Our XC courses are straight up SOFT
We do a better job at music selection though.
It looks like a nice XC course.
I'm reminded of when I first got into mtbing in the 90's, seeing the magazine pictures and articles of the groomed XC tracks in Europe, then going out to Bargo Colliery to race with the Razorback Rangers. The differences then were definitely a shock to the system!
just what i was thinking - tracks in oz are like a velodrome compared to that track - the flat bits might be groomed, but the technical bits are like the shute in GRock. video always makes it look smoother and flatter than it is.
I wonder if that's because they're enduro courses (50/100/8.25hr/24hr) rather than 30-40km XCO courses?
Looks like alot of fun
Fantastic. I recon I would had at least 2 crashes at full break neck speed - defiantly would have hit the jump at 6:23 too hot and gone straight on!
That's what we need on the northern beaches. I dream of single track running parallel(ish) to the main downhill fire trail around the dam....
